Today, together with the European Federalists and the Spinelli Group, we brought the “End the Veto Dialogue” to life, bringing together MEPs and party youth wings to discuss how we can reform Europe: moving beyond unanimity towards a Union capable of acting, deciding, and speaking with one voice.

It is about building new political majorities, creating consensus across political families, and turning the vision of a democratic and federal Europe into concrete proposals.

How can we #EndTheVeto and build political majorities for real EU reform?

On 29 September, we’re bringing young federalists, Members of the European Parliament and European political youth organisations together inside the European Parliament for the Federalist Youth Dialogue. Hosted in collaboration with @raquelineuropa, @the.spinelligroup, @european_federalists, JEF Europe wants to discuss:

💬 How do we turn the need for EU reform into political majorities for change?
🇪🇺 How can we overcome national vetoes that block European action?
📣 And what role can our generation play in building momentum for reform?

Together with representatives from YES, LYMEC and FYEG, MEPs and federalists from across Europe, we’ll discuss concrete strategies to move from debate to political action.

We went hiking with @jdav_bundesverband and enjoyed open borders by foot 🥾

But many passengers on buses, trains and cars are now systematically checked at borders. And this is going on for years. These border controls cost millions, create long queues for cross-border commuters and hurt businesses and our economy.

And the promise of security is misleading. Crime, terrorism and migration do not stop at national borders. We need European cooperation — not checkpoints between Europeans.

Courts have also repeatedly set limits to internal border controls under EU law. And we have to respect the Rule of Law: Systematic border checks can only be a temporary measure! But now the controls are in place for years.

Free movement is something generations of Europeans fought for. It allows us to live, work, study and travel across borders — a freedom many people around the world can only dream of.

Even the European Commission says we should work towards lifting internal border controls.

We fought for this freedom. Now we have to defend it.

We’re so done hearing these EU myths.

Myth 1: “Brussels dictates everything.”

Reality: EU laws are made by the European Parliament (directly elected by citizens), the Council (national governments), and the European Commission. Member states help make the rules - it’s not “Brussels deciding.”

Myth 2: “The EU is too weak to be a geopolitical player.”

Reality: The EU is one of the world’s largest economies, a major trading power, and a global regulator. It negotiates trade deals, imposes sanctions, provides humanitarian and financial aid, and increasingly cooperates on security and defence. It’s not a single state, so it doesn’t act exactly like one - but it still has significant global influence.

Myth 3: “The EU wants to erase our identity.”

Reality: The EU’s motto is “United in Diversity.” It doesn’t replace national identities. Countries keep their own language, culture, traditions, education systems, and national governments while cooperating on shared issues. But they are stronger working together and learning from each other.

Myth 4: “The EU doesn’t affect our lives anyway.”

Reality: It does - whether it’s free roaming, consumer rights, safer products, cheaper travel, clean water standards, student exchanges like Erasmus+, or the ability to live and work across the EU. We are used to having these things in our lives. But they are not guaranteed - they were fought for over many years, and they are not set in stone. If anti-European forces come to power, these rights and forms of cooperation can be rolled back. That is why we have to stand up for the EU and Europe every day, defend democracy, and work towards making Europe stronger and more capable of taking action. by @its.mo.you.know

Why European federalism? 🇪🇺

Because the biggest challenges we face need a united Europe:

🌍 Climate change
🛡️ Security
💻 Digital regulation
📈 Economic resilience

A federal Europe means working together where it makes sense, while keeping decisions as close to citizens as possible through the principle of subsidiarity. It’s not about erasing national identities, it’s about protecting them while making Europe more democratic, more effective, and better equipped to tackle shared challenges.
