Déjà-vu, liebe @bundesregierung, lieber @bundeskanzler? 🚨 Don’t touch my Schengen! 🇪🇺
@donttouchmyschengen

Gemeinsam mit dem @jdav_bundesverband , der @jef_europe und unseren nationalen JEF-Sektion aus Österreich @weunite_austria und der Schweiz @young_european_swiss haben wir beim Border Hike ein Zeichen gesetzt: Grenzen überwinden statt neue schaffen! 🏔️🇪🇺

Today, together with the European Federalists and the Spinelli Group, we brought the “End the Veto Dialogue” to life, bringing together MEPs and party youth wings to discuss how we can reform Europe: moving beyond unanimity towards a Union capable of acting, deciding, and speaking with one voice.

It is about building new political majorities, creating consensus across political families, and turning the vision of a democratic and federal Europe into concrete proposals.

This is only the beginning. #EndTheVeto 💚

How can we #EndTheVeto and build political majorities for real EU reform?

On 29 September, we’re bringing young federalists, Members of the European Parliament and European political youth organisations together inside the European Parliament for the Federalist Youth Dialogue. Hosted in collaboration with @raquelineuropa, @the.spinelligroup, @european_federalists, JEF Europe wants to discuss:

💬 How do we turn the need for EU reform into political majorities for change?
🇪🇺 How can we overcome national vetoes that block European action?
📣 And what role can our generation play in building momentum for reform?

Together with representatives from YES, LYMEC and FYEG, MEPs and federalists from across Europe, we’ll discuss concrete strategies to move from debate to political action.

📅 29 September 2026
🕙 10:00–12:00
📍 European Parliament, Brussels – Spinelli 5G1

🇪🇺 European sovereignty is not a slogan.

“Only Europe can provide true sovereignty to Europeans,” said Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in this year’s #SOTEU.

We agree. But sovereignty requires the power to decide, the resources to act, and democratic institutions accountable to European citizens.

From Ukraine and European defence to climate, AI and our common budget, the challenges are European. Our capacity to respond must be European too.

That means overcoming national vetoes, moving forward with Treaty reform, establishing genuine EU Own Resources and ensuring that common European action goes hand in hand with democratic accountability.

🇪🇺 The EU is still loading. It is time to install the updates.

We went hiking with @jdav_bundesverband and enjoyed open borders by foot 🥾

But many passengers on buses, trains and cars are now systematically checked at borders. And this is going on for years. These border controls cost millions, create long queues for cross-border commuters and hurt businesses and our economy.

And the promise of security is misleading. Crime, terrorism and migration do not stop at national borders. We need European cooperation — not checkpoints between Europeans.

Courts have also repeatedly set limits to internal border controls under EU law. And we have to respect the Rule of Law: Systematic border checks can only be a temporary measure! But now the controls are in place for years.

Free movement is something generations of Europeans fought for. It allows us to live, work, study and travel across borders — a freedom many people around the world can only dream of.

Even the European Commission says we should work towards lifting internal border controls.

We fought for this freedom. Now we have to defend it.

For 45 years, young people have been coming to the Mediterranean island of Ventotene, where Altiero Spinelli, Ernesto Rossi and Eugenio Colorni developed the Ventotene Manifesto during the Second World War, to learn about federalism, discuss ideas and imagine new ones.
Thanks in part to Ursula Hirschmann and Ada Rossi, the text reached mainland Italy.
Today, people continue to work towards their vision: a united and equal Europe.
Ventotene, it was an honour! JEFers, let’s take this vision into our own hands! 🇪🇺💚

E restituirmi, ogni anno l’immensità in speranza e determinazione.

Sei giorni che sembrano un mese. E poi, in pochi secondi, arriva l’ultimo. Lo si riconosce dall’alba.

Quella di una generazione pronta a tornare a casa piena di entusiasmo per l’anno politico che ci aspetta. L’alba. Alle prossime 365, casa.
