We’re only a week away from our regularly scheduled programing, and today we have another Benzini Band member to introduce! Say hello to our drummer and sound effect extraordinaire, Spencer Inch!

Hi, Spencer here! I’m thrilled to be drumming for the Water for Elephants tour, coming right off the tail of my first national tour playing the bodhrán with Come From Away. I’ve been playing the drums since the age of six and have performed nationally with independent artists/bands and regional theaters alike.

As a percussion major at Penn State I learned to play everything from timpani and the marimba to Super Balls and a BiC lighter, which transitioned me perfectly to studying jazz at the University of Miami.

I am a fierce advocate for living as joyfully and authentically as one can, and I work hard to keep my inner child thriving. I enjoy exploring the natural world through hiking, rock climbing, and skiing. And through a deep love of sci-fi/fantasy, this Trekkie strives to leave the world better than he found it in service of the utopia he sees on screen.

Fun Facts:
-For a total of 20 seconds, I played drums with Counting Crows
-I love to cook, with my favorite dish being beef bourguignon
-I was a background actor in the movie adaptation of The Last Five Years

⛲️🐘🎪 I’m thrilled to announce that I will be heading back out on the road; this time with the First National Tour of Water For Elephants!!

➡️Swipe for tour dates, and a preview of the wide array of “instruments” they are making the mistake of letting me play.

I owe you, the Internet, some closing thoughts on my experience touring with Come From Away; and I promise that’s coming soon.

BUT I am immensely grateful for this new opportunity, both to head back out on the road and to play my part in this heartfelt storytelling. Sincere thanks to @benedictbraxtonsmith and @dobson321 for entrusting me with such a beloved piece; I promise to give it my all. And a special shoutout to my dear friend @spoolhelm for sending the opportunity my way in the first place!

And to @plan_w_sarah, thank you for selflessly encouraging me to go after it and being my biggest cheerleader! ❤️

If I’m coming to your town, you know what to do. 🤙🙋‍♂️

Put on those 🎧🙏

@maro.musica strikes again for another #howaboutabodhran. Saw this and had to play along! Something about bodhran and guitars and this woman’s voice just…works. Though, listening to her music also just makes me want to give her a friggin hug sometimes…

Tour is coming to a close too soon, and I’ve got a few more of these I’d like to do, so stay tuned for more!

Happy Release Day @rolandfaunte! Played drums on a number of these tracks (1,4,7,8,9,12,13,16) and so grateful for the opportunity to contribute to these songs. Thanks again to @kylegjoseph for having me on this. Take a listen on Tidal (or Spotify, if you must), link in my bio!

Thanks also to @dreamcymbals for making beautiful instruments that I had the pleasure of using on these sessions.

Excited that this is finally out! Relative Rhythms @relativerhythms is a fantastic new podcast by my friends @adampricemusic and @emilyjaneacree, who are both incredible artists and you must go check them out!! They had me on to talk about my career, my experience with @wecomefromaway, and lots more.

I can’t stand the sound of my voice and my imposter syndrome knows no bounds, but please go check it out wherever you find podcasts!

Up next in the #howaboutabodhran series, I stumbled onto this gorgeous (visually AND musically) reel by @mikerauss and loved the vibe. So here’s some bodhran to go with it! As always, 🎧 recommended 🫡

Playing an absolute beast of a drum made by @hedwitschak_drums, the Cormac Byrne 18” signature model.

How’d I do?

…Actually, never mind, I know better than to ask the internet for its opinion. Thanks @andyarthursmith for this fun little challenge!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!! In this special edition of #howaboutabodhran, I give you…a scenario where the bodhran is actually warranted lol. In honor of the holiday, here’s a really nice setting of the oft-hokey “Irish Washerwoman” from @mattandshannonheaton

As someone who is *relatively* new to this instrument, it’s such a fun process to learn what is and isn’t appropriate to play when backing up a melody. There’s undoubtably lots of room for growth, but I’m having a blast!
