I walk across that stage, but this moment?
This degree? It belongs to her.
The woman who never needed the spotlight,
because she was the light.
The woman who never once said,
“this is too much,”
even when the world threw too much our way.

My father said,
“No one told you to go to school.”
“You made that choice.”
But my mother?
She just said,
“Let’s get it done.”

She held me down when life tried to take me out.
From the gunshots to the grief,
from the nights we didn’t know where we’d land,
to the mornings we still got up and gave.
We raised each other for 22 years—
and somehow, she made it feel like I was always the one being carried.

She is my emergency contact.
My backbone.
My mirror.
My motivation.
My best friend and my most honest critic.
The only one—besides God—who has never walked away.

Momma, your sacrifices have built this moment.
Every adjustment, every tear, every time you bent so I didn’t have to break.
You fought my nightmares and made space for my dreams.

This degree isn’t your burden.
It’s not your mistake.
It’s your crown.

And me?
I’m just the proof that your love and your way works.

Hey y’all 👋🏾 so… I really wrote a book! 🥹✨📖
It’s called Nelly’s Affirmations and it’s all about pouring love, confidence, and belief into our kids. Seeing my girls reading it and speaking life over themselves has been the best part of this whole journey. 💛

The mantra inside says it all:
‘I love myself. I believe in myself. I’m proud of myself. I’m a genius.’ ✨

This is bigger than a story — it’s a reminder to our babies that they are enough, they are seen, and they are unstoppable.

Thank you for sharing the ones you love with the world ! Thank you for molding them and showing them what love is like and having that reflected and ran all through me! These people they are not just names ! Not just photos! Not just people you could forget ! I will always remember ❤️Truthfully because of them i could ! JaShawn taught me it’s ok to smile even when you don’t feel like it . Never judge a book by its cover. Through god all things are possible. Niell taught me that it was ok to be different even if others don’t like it be who you are and confidently! Samari taught me about how to deal with death when you feel the chills all of sudden smile out of no where see flowers bloom that’s your loved ones that are far away sending there love to you ! Mak taught me to look into the mirror and love what what i was seeing and to see what i was doing and be proud ! You can still have friends go to school hang out and run a business it’s all about time management ! EJ man! He taught me early that if you don’t speak up no one will hear you no one will see and no one will know what you have to say! If you really want it go and get it! My grandpa and great grandparents laid down my foundation walked on it and left me a path that was only for me! Dontreal Monyaee MY BROTHER MY BABY he taught me about family not just people you claim but family ones that will always be there and never leave you ! Never had to question his loyalty ! Literally when my own blood pushed me down he helped me back up and for him I’m internally and externally grateful yeah we called eachother names and faught but at the end of the day he always knew my window was always open and he could call my phone at anytime from anywhere! We built a real bond over +8 plus years and had love that i wouldn’t spear!
