Reminiscing in the nourishing goodness of the last weekend.

It was our anniversary and my wonderful hubby booked us place by the ocean in our favourite seaside town and let me tell you I needed it.

Quality time with my family away from any projects and to do lists. Just us talking, connecting, exploring and experiencing together. We also got to see close friends of ours which once again, friends that feel like family, friends to be vulnerable with, make memories with and inspire each other.

And of course Mother Nature, being immersed in her wildness, giving me reminders of how we are always taken care of and other sacred messages. We are not separate from nature, we are connected to it and the more we live in sync with it the more we live how we were created to be. by @itscareyb

To think we are separate from nature is foolish.

We are all connected to it, it’s just the depth of the relationship is what varied and is based on our day to day choices. These daily choices are the ones that impact our life on a whole.

Ok so I’m a little behind on my update but here is a little recap. Swipe through to see what has been happening.

We are slowly making progress and soon I will be picking out finishes. We did finalise the layout of each room so that we can put in conduit and piping for electrical and plumbing before it was poured.

Honestly I’m so proud of husband and what a team we make! It’s one thing to build and have a team to build it for you but to be doing all the build yourself is next level. It’s literally us, Austin and an engineer who check it all and is so impressed with the build and the quality of it so far. Every detail has been thought out and done.

Putting up profiles to start building foundation walls.

The start of the walls going up for the foundation.

This deserves a moment. I fell off the foundation and it was pretty gnarly but thankfully I was not holding any of the kids and nothing was broken.

The start of filling the sand now that the walls were built up.

Then the placement of plastic and metal wire for reinforcement.

Pouring of the cement round two.

We have our foundation slab 👏 it’s crazy all the work that goes in to just creating the foundation.

We went through a time in interior design when grey was the trendy colour. We saw it everywhere and we still see it everywhere. Here’s the thing about Grey though choosing the right Grey is a skill because most of the time I see the use of Grey in a home being used in way that makes the space feel a bit sad because Grey as a colour has psychological trigger such as detachment, isolation, it is associated with gloomy weather, storms, and creating a cold or lifeless mood.Studies have shown that it can if it is the dominate colour in the space that it can can lower productivity and worsen symptoms of anxiety or depression.

Now if you are a fan or grey or your home is currently Grey dominant don’t panic here are some tips on how to liven up your space in simple and effective ways. See the tips in the following slides and let me know if you will be implementing of them.

If Grey is your colour of choice and you need help in selecting the right shades of grey or making your existing choices work book a consult with me. I offer both in person and online consultations to help you with your design needs.

One of my favourite things to do with my daughter is to do art side by side and often it’s just colouring in side by side that is why I was so excited when I was gifted these stunning colouring book from @homeofthewildones

They have been designed especially for mamas and let me tell you I feel so seen as I flip through the books and read all the beautiful and oh so relatable quotes.

These books encourage moments of mindfulness while also encouraging at the same time. I love how thoughtfully and creatively they have been designed and that is something I can do for myself alone or with my little ones.

Please go check them out @homeofthewildones and support a fellow mama who has put so much love into these books. They would be a great gift not just to treat yourself but also other moms too.🫶

For those who needed to hear this today 🫶

Taking time to reflect over the last few months, I’ve realised something about my work whether it’s interior design or the gardens and workshops at Naturally Simple. It comes down to one thing: helping people live lives that are deeply connected to themselves, to nature, and to the spaces they inhabit.

Each business has a clear separate purpose, but they share the same roots which compliments each other and creates an eco system.

The spaces we inhabit influence how we feel, think, work, rest, connect, and heal. Whether that space is a living room, an office, a balcony, or an edible garden, thoughtful design can improve quality of life.

I still haven’t figured out how to introduce myself at the next networking event. It’s no longer as simple as “I’m an interior designer” or “I’m a garden designer” it’s so much more than that now. If you have ideas on how to put this into words, I’d love to hear them below.

I’ve noticed how people always gather in the kitchen.

Leaning on the counter. Perched on stools. Drink in hand, somehow always in the way of whoever’s actually cooking. You can set up the coziest living room in the world and people will still drift toward the room with a stove in it.

Long before living rooms existed, there was the hearth. Our modern kitchens just inherited that job. It has become the heart of the home, the one room with a reason to linger and something to do together while you talk.

So why don’t we design them that way? A kitchen doesn’t have to choose between working well and feeling like somewhere you want to be.

Creating kitchens that do both is what I am all about. A space that is functional and designed for how you cook and desire to use the space as well as a space that allows people to gather in because they’re going to gather there either way. by @itscareyb

Holy Basil also known as Tulsi has to been in my top ten favourite herbs. It is herb that is revered and has numerous medicinal benefits.

Holy basil is an anti-inflammatory, adaptogenic, has been used to ease respiratory infections and skin irritations as well known to lower blood pressure.

I love using Holy Basil in an infusion like a tea, in salves and tinctures💚 by @itscareyb

Seedless everything. Coincidence? We don’t think so. 😳( yes we said it )

We’ve noticed more and more produce in stores losing its seeds literally. So we’re doing the opposite by letting select crops go fully to seed on purpose.

Why? Because every seed we save is a seed we can:
 🌱Replant next season
🌱 Store in our seed bank
 🌱 Swap with fellow growers
🌱 Gift to someone just starting out

Saving seeds isn’t just a gardening habit, it’s a quiet act of resistance and resilience.
What are you letting go to seed this year? by @itscareyb
