A few months ago, I came closer than ever to walking away from music.

This week, one of my songs (Just Another Song) was featured on the newest season of Survival of the Thickest on Netflix. I thought hearing it in the show would be the moment I'd remember forever.
#survivalofthethickest #indieartist #lgbtartist #newmusic #synthpop
It wasn't.

The moment I'll remember is watching thousands of strangers celebrate with me. Every comment, every Shazam, every playlist add, every message... you reminded me why I started making music in the first place.

Thank you to Amy Aniobi and Michelle Buteau for lifting me up, to Netflix for giving my music a platform, and to my friends who refused to let me give up on myself.

I'll tell you the full story soon. ❤️ taken in Los Angeles, California by @itskelechi

you might've found me through my garden, or through homecoming, when I reunited with my classmate Tia, who stuck up for me every time I got picked on for being gay (still not over it 🥹). everything happening around me lately is ending up in songs, so I figured it was time to properly introduce myself. every chapter deserves a soundtrack 🌱

hey there, you. I'm Kelechi, and it's so good to meet you!

so tell me, did you find me through the garden, homecoming, or have you been here for the music this whole time? 👀

🎬 "just another song" is on @netflix's Survival of the Thickest S3 with @michellebuteau @strongblacklead (and streaming everywhere 🎧)

this is Tia. we graduated together in 2004 and i hadn't seen her since. in high school, whenever guys would pick on me for “acting like a girl,” she ALWAYS stood up for me. she was a tough cookie too 😂 nobody played in her face, so having her in my corner meant something. 22 years later, i ran into her at our high school homecoming game. i asked if she remembered any of that and she immediately goes “oh YES! i sure do!” 😂 followed by an “i love you.” here’s to the girls who protected the boys who were different before some of us even understood what made us different. we remember you ❤️ thank you, Tia.

here's to 38 🎈#happybirthday to me 🎂
i've learned many tough lessons this last year. I think as you get older, the fear of loneliness, doubt and regret sets in. and for some reason, those fears have been on my spirit for the last several months. but they've also pushed me to be more intentional with my friendships, interactions, and how I choose to spend my time here on Earth. that has given me the strength I've needed going into this new year of life. so I'm raising a glass to my friends who helped me get through 37. you know who you are. thank you for loving me. thank you for checking in on me. thanks for dropping by unannounced. thanks for the impromptu adventures and the endless laughs. And most importantly, thank you for being you. by @itskelechi
