Coming out of hibernation to reflect on a huge full circle moment for me! 7 years ago I started my professional art journey with a series of paintings on feminism in Indian mythology, and now all these years later I’m so lucky to have returned back to my roots with my first published set of illustrations for the book “Magic Has No Borders”. Storytelling has always played a big role in my art, so who would have thought all the research I used to do would have somehow manifested into contributing to this anthology series on the magic of South Asian mythology? I never imagined that one day I’d be browsing the shelves of Barnes & Noble for something that has my work in it!Thank you to @sonesone2 & @sam_aye_ahm for dreaming big and bringing South Asian stories to the world, the team at @harpercollins & a special thanks to @sayantanidasguptabooks & @sabaatahir, whose short stories I illustrated. Thank you for the power of your words!And last, a bittersweet tribute to my Baji (paternal grandfather) who I dedicate this milestone to! We unfortunately lost him today, and he’s the one person I was most excited to share this book with. A huge book lover and fellow artist himself I grew up sharing all my artwork with him from the sketchbooks I used to bring with me to India as a kid to my professional portfolio as an adult. In fact it’s no coincidence that my very first achievement in the art world started with a pencil portrait I made of him that won a Scholastic art award in high school & ended with the gift of my first book release and me telling him to get better soon so he could read it himself just yesterday. Always one of my biggest supporters, my creativity wouldn’t be possible without your example to inspire me & our unique shared interests. You were also my biggest competitor because still to this day there are more of your artworks hanging in our house than mine, but its ok because your passion is precious enough to span generations and I’ll always be thankful for the talent you grew inside both of us.It’s only fitting that this art happens to be about a few of your favorite things & that I get to celebrate your life with something special like this! by @itsnehalicious

#paidpromotion “Are you a cosmic head in the clouds person?” 🌩🦸🏽‍♀️Being an artist you have to be a professional “dreamer” in a world full of people who don’t understand what it’s like to always be imagining possibilities that don’t quite exist yet! I don’t even know where to begin but I am so incredibly honored to have collaborated with @disneyplus @marvelstudios @_productofculture_ on the new @msmarvelofficial series! Growing up I couldn’t even imagine seeing a brown girl superhero being celebrated on TV, and even more so getting the opportunity as an artist to share my culture with the world through a brand I grew up with! Being someone whose work has always been so heavily culturally influenced I didn’t think my art could ever be celebrated in this light! 🥹This is not just a dream come true for me but for our South Asian community and all the brown creatives involved in making this happen! To help kick off the first episode I was asked to illustrate a composition inspired by the elements that resonated most with me-(1) the imagery of banglesthroughout the episode and (2) Kamala’s connection to her family.I loved how there were stages throughout the episode where such a culturally symbolic item (the bangle)goes from traditional, ethnic wear to cosplay item, to the source of her power. I found that shift reallymoving because as a South Asian woman a lot of my first memories of culture came from observing thejewelry collection my mom had, playing dress up with it, and receiving things from my relatives in India.As I got older I started using adornment and South Asian fashion as a focal point in my art, whichgave my work a lot of meaning, similar to how the bangle becomes a source of Kamala's strength.I was also particulary drawn to the line Kamala's mother said at the end of the episode “are you acosmic head in the clouds type person?” I found that relatable because it's not easy to dounconventional things in South Asian culture, so you have to learn to be a bit of dreamer even whensociety tells you to focus on more practical things.That's why the focal point of my composition is bangles & celestial imagery ✨ by @itsnehalicious

It's been an action packed summer at AGNI studios and here's one of our biggest highlights: designing an outfit for the iconic @ravjotmehek for Pride month! 🌈She was so kind to reach out & have us custom make her look for the Queens pride parade in New York 🥹Together we found the perfect way to celebrate queer, Sikh, and Punjabi culture through fashion, and we're so proud of how this turned out! An ode to Pansexual Punjabis 🌈 Every detail of this custom @agnistyle was filled with history and culture from the paranda braid that creates the structure of the piece, to the superhero like dupatta with “Asi Sare Ik Haan” embroidered in Punjabi, to the pink, blue, and yellow beaded embellishments symbolizing the pansexual flag, to the Punjabi Sharara bottoms, to the beautiful Nirbhau Nirvar text paranda by @parandaparty 💕 @itsnehalicious worked so so hard to bring a silly sketch of mine to life and added so much of her love, energy, insight, and design masterfully into this iconic Pride outfit that I wore to honor @kingsunnyb being the first Sikh Grand Marshall of the Queens Pride Parade. I am SO inspired by Neha and her work, and have been fortunate enough to have worked with her several times on art exhibits over the past few years.She is such a kind soul with incredible talent to match. It is my true honor to have worked with her and created something so meaningful together. I believe in representing ourselves fully, as does Neha. We do not have to choose between our identity and our faith. There are no rules that we must pick one even though society often forces it upon us. We can be as multifaceted as we want and there is never any limit, and that is exactly what this piece represents to me 💕 unity, pride, heritage, and true expression of our full selves. If you need to get your creative juices flowing save this vid for some major inspo! Spent the beginning of this year in India and here’s a recap of all the art I saw on my trip! I wanted this trip to be different from past ones so it was important for me to squeeze in as many museums, monuments, and art galleries as I could! My phone really does not do the intricacies and details justice at all! I wish I could airdrop my memories so you all could experience the beauty I saw! 😩✨We went to 5 cities (Delhi, Jaipur, Bangalore, Mysore, & Mumbai) and each place had its own distinctive style. I really felt like I got a true glimpse of the wide variety of craftsmanship around India. The best part was seeing a few Raja Ravi Varma paintings in real life, which was such a pinch me moment because he’s been the biggest influence on my work since high school! Definitely got some cool new ideas and I can’t wait to channel some of what I saw! Edited this video only because it’s the first time I’ve filmed one of those trendy before and after transitions successfully 😇 But more importantly I’ve been thinking about our concept of success and failure. I feel like success is very much measured by numbers and how much validation you’re getting from the outside world but we don’t often highlight how much failure it takes to get a win.Lately I’ve been loving how much more polished and detailed my recent designs have been coming out but it took me many failed products and ideas to get here, especially as someone who did not go to fashion school and comes from the fine art world. I have to constantly remind myself that my frustrations, my insecurities, my undeveloped skills, and moments of not being able to get things right are what led me to developing the eye I have today. I wish success was measured more by our collective knowledge, growth, and celebrating the beauty of our progress at all stages rather than focusing on the end goal or pinpointing the highest highs.I hope everyone’s 2025 comes with lots of new learning and being able to find meaning in every little thing! Just a little leftover holiday cheer! It felt nice to end the year with one of my favorite upcycled creations! 🎄🎁Honestly, 2024 had its own unique set of anxieties and growing pains but i'm ready to hit the ground running this year. I hope whatever's meant for me comes gently and presents an opportunity for change and inspiration. Speaking of which, my current inspo for everything is cute feminine stuff like bows, victorian patterns, and vintage book illustrations, and of course my never ending love of the color red! I was trying to plan something glittery and bright for a new years look but honestly there's nothing more me than bold pops of color!
