Today I’d like to take a moment to recognize my favorite author and wish a Happy Heavenly Birthday to bell hooks. Her contributions to our society and culture ring true today. She provided critical interventions that pushed for all to embody and practice a love ethic for humanity. We certainly could use her voice now, and miss her dearly. Swipe to see some of her most iconic moments. Rest in Love!

In honor of bell hooks, I started a book club called “b(h)ooks club” and on Thursday, October 22, 2026, we’ll resume our discussion of “Black Looks: Race and Representation” in the Parlor @shanklinhall from 5-8 pm. If you missed part 1, please do not feel like you can’t attend; all are welcome and we’d love to have you. Link in bio for registration & rsvp.

Right after book club, I’ll also be hosting Libras & Libations to celebrate all Libras, including our beloved, bell hooks. 💜♎️

Pardon us, Virgos, the Libras are here. On Thursday, October 22, we’re closing out Libra Season by celebrating the Libras. Y’all know y’all have a Libra friend, and if you don’t, it’s probably your fault.😬 Let’s be honest, people love Libras. We have great taste, we’re amazing plus-one’s, and can somehow turn a random night into a story worth retelling.

This one’s for the Libras and everyone lucky enough to love one. Meet us in the Parlor at Shanklin Hall at 8 pm. Come raise a glass, flirt a little, dance a lot, and celebrate the sign that keeps the world in balance.

*Please be advised: This is a Libra party, drip or drown.*

Free rsvp, link in bio.

Love for the Creator. 💜

The first tenet of Black Love Day asks us to consider our relationship to something larger than ourselves.

For Defining Love: Voices of Black D.C., Warrington Sebree (@itsweslee) shared what that means to him.

And on Tuesday, he’ll join us for the first Defining Love Community Salon as we take these definitions a step further and ask:

How do our definitions of Black love become something we actually practice?

Sept. 22 | 7:30–8:30 PM ET | Virtual + Free

Defining Love: Voices of Black D.C. is funded in part by @humanitiesdc.
