MS1s worked together in groups to learn the fundamentals of land navigation and build confidence navigating the terrain. MS2s paired up to put their skills into practice, while MS3s navigated independently and were graded on their performance to better simulate the challenges of Advanced Camp.

Cadets conduct Individual Movement Techniques to learn how to tactically move in a wooded environment and how to react to the enemy. Through hands-on training, cadets develop the skills needed to maneuver effectively, communicate with their team, and operate in challenging terrain.

What a great day to learn Tactical Combat Casualty Care for these cadets. Together they learned how to perform Care Under Fire, manage airway, control massive hemorrhaging, and execute a 9 line medevac. These skills were put into hands on practice and the MS3's got to put their skills to the test

Drill and Ceremony was the first lab where cadets got to learn more about the Army. These cadets learned how to stand at parade rest, stand at attention, and salute in order to learn the proper commands in formation

This year we started off welcome week with a bang! LTC Walton introduced new cadets and their families to the battalion. Then we built up teamwork, confidence, and camaraderie within the battalion with an obstacle course, paintball, and rock climbing.

Introducing our Battalion Commander, Sam Enes. Sam is from East Berlin, Connecticut, and is currently majoring in Journalism and Public Relations. Throughout his time in Army ROTC, he has participated in Sage Eagle training exercises, completed the Army Ten-Miler twice, competed in the Ranger Buddy Competition, and the Bataan Memorial Death March. He has been a member of the Ranger Challenge competition team since his MS1 year and served as the team captain for two years.

Outside of ROTC, Sam spent three years as a manager for the Indiana University Swimming and Diving team and currently works as a bouncer at a local bar in Bloomington. Following graduation, he hopes to branch Infantry, Medical Service Corps, or Armor and continue developing as a leader and Army officer.

Where Are They Now?

Former Bison Battalion cadet, First Lieutenant Zielinski, will be the first feature of Indiana University Army ROTC’s “Where are they now?” posts. These posts will capture the journeys of Indiana University Army ROTC Alumni once they reach the fighting force.

“In 2022 I commissioned from IU and attended Ordnance BOLC in Fort Lee, Virginia followed by the Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal in Destin, Florida. After graduating EOD school in December 2023, I was stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado where I served as a PL in the 764 OD CO (EOD) and XO for the 749 OD CO (EOD). In May of last year, I began working on BN staff with the 242 OD BN (EOD) and in September deployed in support of OSS/OIR as the theater EOD Task Force. Currently, I serve as the Future Operations OIC for the BN, coordinating EOD support to CENTCOM level exercises and partner nation engagements.“
