We are pleased to announce the representation of Julia Woronowicz.

Julia Woronowicz (b. 1997) is a Warsaw-based Polish visual artist working across painting, installation, sculpture, video, and speculative storytelling. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and the University of the Arts Poznań, she creates feminist “ethno-fictions” that reimagine Polish history and Slavic mythology from the perspective of women and marginalized voices.

Drawing on folklore, speculative archaeology, museum display strategies, and counterfactual history, Woronowicz constructs immersive fictional worlds populated by witches, herbalists, female warriors, and nonhuman beings. Her work explores the intersections of gender, memory, ecology, nationalism, and collective mythmaking, while critically revisiting patriarchal historical narratives and institutional structures.

Her breakthrough project „Kwiatuszku” (2020), awarded the Grand Prize of the Artystyczna Podróż Hestii in 2021, combined sculpture and video in a performative critique of stereotypes surrounding femininity and violence. In 2022, during a residency in New York, she developed the series „Evil Daisies and Heroic Demonesses”, introducing international audiences to her semi-fictional Slavic mythology blending past, present, and speculative futures.

Her work has been presented in public institutions across Poland, including „Wełnogłowe” at the Miejski Ośrodek Sztuki in Gorzów Wielkopolski, and the sculpture park of Towarzystwo Ubezpieczeń ERGO Hestia in Sopot, where her bronze sculpture „Kuksonia giętka” was unveiled in 2024.

˖⁺。˚⋆˙ Dear all, I am very happy to finally announce it. Bronze monument of cooksonia flexilis, the first land plant ever, has been standing since December of 2023 in the Hestia Park in Sopot, Poland. The sister sculpture made of concrete is to be located in Gdańsk later this year. In the implementation of the project, I cooperated with Mariusz Burdek and Maks Rzontkowski. The sculpture can already be visited, but the official opening will be in June 💕

PL:

| MEET JULIA WORONOWICZ |

Recife Gallery is thrilled to present Julia Woronowicz in the new group exhibition Cry Me a River.

Based in Warsaw, Woronowicz explores feminist narratives, Slavic mythology, folklore, and speculative histories through painting, sculpture, installation, and video. Her practice creates fictional worlds where forgotten voices, female figures, and nonhuman beings challenge established narratives of history, gender, and collective memory.

For Cry Me a River, Woronowicz presents works that continue this exploration, blending mythology and contemporary experience into an evocative reflection on memory, transformation, and resilience.

🥂Opening: October 8 | 6–10 PM🥂

Exhibition: October 8 - 15th

📍77 rue Vieille-du-Temple, 75003 Paris

Will-o’-the-wisp refers to a soft, flickering light appearing in swamps or wetlands, historically interpreted as an illusion, omen, or wonder. The phenomenon is commonly explained by the escape of swamp gases such as methane or phosphine, which occur only under highly specific conditions. taken in AG18 Gallery Vienna by @iulje
