October is my favorite month. 🍂🧡 I love every color, the weather, Halloween, and all the warm, cozy everything that comes with it.
This dreary weathered weekend calls for chili, decorating, kitchen kid-friendly spooky treats, Halloween movies, and a highly recommended bowl of popcorn served in a cauldron. 🎃🍿🧙

A few spooky treat reviews from our kitchen:
👻 Marshmallow-white chocolate dipped ghosts: So easy and a huge hit!
🕸️ Pretzel spiderwebs: Adorable, simple, and too cute!
🧟 Mummy cake pops: Unless you’re an insufferable baker (like me) who can’t leave well enough alone, don’t bother. LOL. 😂

A late post in honor of September 30, Nonspeaking Awareness Day, which feels especially personal. ❤️ Leona is my magical 10 year old who happens to be nonspeaking and has whole body apraxia, a neurological motor planning difference that can make it incredibly difficult for her body to reliably do what her brain is asking it to do. That includes speech, but also many motor responses we often mistake for measures of understanding.
And thankfully, THAT distinction has changed so much for us.
Leona’s ability to speak has NEVER been a measure of her intelligence. I just didn’t know that until later in her life.
Over the past 17 months, we have begun a new chapter with Lindsay at @communicationadvocates Nashville. Leona is still in the acquisition phase, learning the motor skills required to accurately and reliably point to letters on a letterboard. We have so much to learn, but this journey has already changed how we understand communication, motor ability, and what it means to presume competence. P.S. Look out world once she becomes an open speller on a 26 letter board! ❤️
We are learning that a body that cannot always respond on command does not tell us what a person knows. Most importantly, we have learned to presume intelligence.

✨She knows that we know she is fully in there.✨

I share this to honor Leona and EVERY nonspeaking person whose intelligence, thoughts, humor, preferences, and inner world are far greater than spoken language could ever measure.
The GREATEST thing I have learned through Leona is this: You do not have to speak words to live fully in your truth, to be known, or to lead with the highest expression, which is love. Being seen by others is a beautiful bonus, but it does not define our wholeness. Simply by being herself, Leona creates a ripple that challenges our conditioning around communication, intelligence, and what it means to be understood.
I’m listening, sweet girl. We are all learning from you.

What a great way to spend National Tequila Day! Talking about @drinksouthbound—the best tequila for sipping and for ANY cocktail you have in mind!

You’ve gotta try the Southbound Jalisco Hugo. As Carole said, “It’s insane and life-changing!” So refreshing and perfectly balanced!! Thanks for having me @carolesullivan on @todayinnashville

Wardrobe @saks
Southbound Jalisco Hugo

Ingredients

* 1½ oz Southbound Blanco
* ¾ oz St-Germain
* ¼ oz fresh lime juice
* 8–10 mint leaves
* 3–4 oz sparkling water
* Mint sprig / lime for garnish

Method

1. Gently clap the mint or muddle and place in a wine glass or large stemmed glass.
2. Add tequila, St-Germain, and lime juice. Include wedges of lime in the drink.
3. Fill generously with ice.
4. Top with sparkling water.
5. Give one gentle stir.
6. Garnish with a large mint bouquet and a lime wedge. by @iveychilders

It is checking all the boxes people!!

Ava’s first @theheartshakers concert last night watching her dad @bassmmmbass was a total blast! @nashoba.live was the perfect place for it to happen. She did not want to leave the dance floor, and honestly, neither did anyone else.

Such a great show! 🙌 They now carry @drinksouthbound, which was the cherry on top. Thanks to the band for giving me a moment to share about Southbound while also enjoying such a fun mom moment.

If you’re near Collierville or the Memphis area, I highly recommend checking them out. Can’t wait for the @theheartshakers to come back! by @iveychilders
