004 Laughing With Mom

Oh, What a joy this woman is! I’m so grateful to have a mother as tenacious, hilarious, tender, and creative as @ivybrog 💖 she has always travelled both the mountains and the valleys with grace, and she has probably been my biggest teacher by example when it comes to how we grapple with loss graciously.

I drove to see her for Mother’s Day last weekend and we got some really special, quality time together. It’s hard living in a different state than most of my immediate family, and while I try to see them about once a month, it can be difficult.

Once I confirmed by plans to go see my family, I made sure to pack my recorder in case I might want to save a certain sound. We got into a huge laughing fit about something—I can’t even remember—and in the cool-down I pulled my recorder out to capture us laughing a bit more. Then I paired it with a couple of videos from the bench we were sitting/laughing on.

There will still be so much laughter even after I go deaf, I know this. But to hear it, that’s something I’ll miss so much. Especially the laughter of people I love the most.
