PLAYER’S CLUB.
In 2008, after being replaced by subjects like Civic Education, Social Studies and Government, History as a stand-alone subject was removed from the Nigerian curriculum. Its removal contributed to a trend that has stripped Nigerians of positive figures. In January this year, History was reportedly reintroduced into the curriculum.

PLAYER’S CLUB is my small contribution to uplifting past figures. Its design is modelled after the celebratory nature of player collectible cards with bold colours, unique fonts, detailed artwork, and accessories.
We need more positive figures to help combat the apathy we have towards our country, and there just aren’t enough projects that pay homage to our history and heritage. Whether it’s by supporting upcoming ones or, like me, celebrating existing ones, it’s important that we all contribute.

I combined my love for football, design and nostalgia to produce this very dear project. Lately I’ve been thinking about how I can tell the story of football through a different lens—focusing more on the emotions we feel rather than the actions in the sport. I’m still working on that part, but I’m proud of this step. by @ivyso.n_

OUR HOMECOMING: My art project about Nigerian popular history and heritage in the form of a stamp collection.

For a while now I have been really interested in Nigerian art aesthetics so this was an expansion on my Ashluxe entry from a few weeks ago. Most of the imagery is features 90s super eagles because I like the jersey aesthetics and the history makes me proud to be Nigerian. by @ivyso.n_

I think about the Super Eagles a lot. I think this is our best crop in forever. That’s why I’m baffled that they haven’t won anything yet together. It worries me thatAFCON is next year and I see that as possibly their last chance at a trophy. Their average age is around 27-28 so in 4 years time, they might be past their best and it just feels like wasted potential at this point.

The process for this was very straightforward. I had prepared the images on my laptop and mocked up what it could look like. The printer gave out a different colour but I found when it comes to image-making I accept the randomness of computers - it’s my way of being organic in the process, so I wasn’t fussed at how it came out. The scanned copy also gave out entirely new colours that I found very pleasant. by @ivyso.n_

We had the pleasure of advising @ivyso.n_ as he licensed two of his artworks for Rituals:
A limited-edition fanzine by @nike documenting global football culture.

The Super Eagles may not have made it to the World Cup, but the Nigerian spirit, stories, and art certainly did.

This fanzine is proof of how far creative work can travel.
And it reminds us of why we’re here: to ensure the creatives shaping culture own what they create and get the best value for it.

All This Useless Energy (2026)
Digital.

This painting came to me at a weird point in my life. It came from the uncertainty I felt about my future. I had started freelancing that year, I was overworked and I was trying to figure out where I fit in. Seeing my peers look so resolved in their work made me feel like I didn’t know what I was doing; and I didn’t. I’ve always had a problem with discomfort; everyone else seemed like they knew what they were doing and I was in my corner feeling confused. On one hand I had all these different skills that seemed great but on the other, I didn’t know how to put them all together to good use. So it seemed like I had to abandon some of them, ones that I truly loved, so that I could focus on the other ones. I guess this is where the pain came from. That point where you feel like you don’t know what you’re doing and you don’t quite know how to move forward, it feels messy and all over the place. That is why the subject looks like that.

The image came to my head as the song was playing one night. It as if I suddenly started paying attention to the lyrics and realised how much it spoke to me. It took over a year to complete; I just didn’t have the skill or bravery, but then I was able to start from scratch and finish it this night. Funny thing.

It’s been a year since and I understand now that you’re supposed to get used to that uncertain feeling and no one really knows what they’re doing anyway. by @ivyso.n_

As always, it’s gratitude for the context my work cannot exist without. It’s an honour to say that images from my project “Our Homecoming” were featured in @nike World Cup zine.

I’m not going to sit here and lie that it’s a dream come true - I could’ve never dreamt of this, not for this project. To be able to contribute to a brand like Nike on such a grand occasion like the World Cup is something I could’ve never imagined. To see the new life this project has taken on, after I initially released it years ago, has been humbling. Something that was made from just pure passion and desire off another throwaway project, on my crappy laptop somewhere in an obscure part of Dawaki during my NYSC year… it’s been amazing. The reactions since then, the opportunities it has given me, the confidence, the vision to expand on, I’m very grateful.

Watching sections of the zine slowly rollout in real-time has also been mind blowing. Like my work is sharing space with these other images featuring legendary icons of the game. I have been going crazy in my room for the past two months now. Life is so funny, and this is only the beginning.

Special thanks to Tobe (@tobe_nws) for helping out with legal side as my lawyer and extra thanks to @nigeriangothic for their research that brought my work to light in the first place. by @ivyso.n_

“…they have a really nice surface texture to them”.
Here are close up shots of the prints. They are layered by a stone-mason finish which gives it a rough albeit shinny feel.

I always knew if I made prints they would always be in this style of finish, I like the roughness.
