Boogie time 🕺

Thank you so much to everyone who came out to my birthday dance classsss 🥂✨

This is the second piece of choreography I’ve ever made (!!) and I’m so happy with how it turned out 🌸

My intention with this one was to create movement that feels as good for us to dance as the music sounds - especially in those funky bass moments 🎸 something about funk just lights my soul on fire and I wanted to bring that to life, and create an environment for us to have the absolute most fun possible ✨

What I love about heels as a style is how versatile it is. Yes we have heels technique, coming from ballet and jazz, but really we can dance to any music genre in a heel. I think I’ve found my fave 🕺

My first piece of choreography ever, taught for my first dance class ever!

The girlies in tech came through and we had so much fun! 👠🪩

What a beautiful twist of events that I went from loving ballet growing up, to leaving dance for ~10 years for university, career, life, to losing myself in my 20s, moving to NYC, somehow doing this big girl tech job in the big apple, dancing my heart out, and now sharing what I’m learning about authenticity and self-expression with women like me ♥️

This class is now my proof that my potential is only as big or small as my belief in myself, and that self-belief is something I’m working to grow every day 🌱

THANK YOU to my wonderful assistants @caro.buckaz @twiggyversatile @5teffers 💃, photographer @m76photo 📸

and finally, to the goat @twincitytv, who was the first person to plant the seed that doing this could be possible for me 🫶 at the time I just laughed, but here we are…🥹

I’m so grateful to be able to travel back home and try on different styles of choreography with amazing dancers / teachers / humans like @bei.elisa 💓

I definitely feel more at home in Elisa’s jazzy heels style than others, and it feels so good to just sit in the pocket like in this one 🤸‍♀️

Howeverrrrr

My intention with dance now is more than just to feel good and have fun, but to grow 🍃

So for the next year, I’m setting myself a goal/challenge:

To spend 70% of the time I have to dance learning and practising foundations and technique, across ballet, jazz, hip hop, salsa & Latin, etc 💃

It’s not gonna be easy (cos why are choreography classes just the best rush of endorphins everrrr 🫠), but the discipline is necessary for the reward at the end 🏅

Brb just popping to the park between meetings for some stretchy stretch timeeee 🍃

When you’re someone who wants to dance all day every day

But right now you’re chained to a desk all day instead, for your job

I get it 🙇🏼‍♀️

We gotta be creative with when movement can happen 🤸‍♀️

Also just found this song WHEEWWWWWWW gonna choreograph to this soon for sure 😮‍💨

I went on the @women_in_data podcast to share how dance is changing me, both personally and professionally 💃

In this clip, I’m talking about how my unravelling in recent years into a more embodied, feminine, confident version of myself through dance had some unintended consequences:

Making me better at being a nerd 🤓

Always honour those who believed in you long before you ever did 🥹

I went onto the @women_in_data podcast to share how dance is changing me, both personally and professionally

Here’s a clip in which I’m shouting out @iamtamarakramer, founder and owner of @studio68london 🇬🇧

Tamara, known as TK, was the first person to tell me I could be like those heels dancers I watched all the time on this app. And my very first heels teacher (although our time in heels together didn’t last long - that’s another story…)

She figuratively held my hand through those very scary first steps into this world, and for that I will always, always treasure her ♥️

BTS: getting strong for dance x

Naturally, as a dancer, I’m extremely dramatic 💁‍♀️ when lifting heavy in the gym, and feel the need to provide a running commentary to my PT about my thoughts and feelings throughout x

This year I found @jadeconnorr, a PT who is both a professionally-trained ballet dancer and a wonderfully kind human

So she not only understands the exact kind of power and control for heels dance I’m looking to create through strength training 🏋️‍♀️

But she also gets my dramatic tendencies to express myself on the gym floor 🎭 lol

This time: reflections from deadlifting ☁️
