there’s a spirit moving through these towering roots, some spawn in the trees, you can catch glimpses of moonlight silhouetting this winding twisting creature that comes alive in the early blue hours of the morning

-

this painting came together in pieces over the summer, I was inspired by banyan trees that grow all over the place in my hometown, we’d clamber up roots as kids and I felt like I could picture tons of little creatures living in the crevices of twisting roots and branches. when I was young I felt like there was a veil of magic stretched over everything, I was a total night owl and loved seeing that 4am blue while the moon was up and I was on the verge of sleep and wake, I’m exploring that mystical touch of nature through my art now

ā€˜Guardians of Panther City’
Collage & Acrylic Paint
2026

I made this piece to call attention to the proposed rezoning for the Black Mountain/EdgeConnex Data Center in Fort Worth. Their plan is to turn over 500 acres into a data campus - to put it into perspective, the Deep Ellum neighborhood is around 300 acres. @movements4thesoul organized an amazing event @weston_gardens to bring together artists, musicians, local organizations, and businesses to rally the community against the proposed data center.

My latest works have been focused on mystical, chimera like creatures - inspired by the nature of my home town. I made this piece with Fort Worth fauna and flora in mind - ranging from longhorn cattle, to monarch butterflies, and the northern mockingbird. They are shredding the site plan for the proposed data center, freeing the flora from beneath it to fluorish.

A print made by @paigebauske_art from Milwaukee. Data centers will use up so much water, in a time where clean water will only continue to get more scarce.

A painting by Julie Meeks, depicting the toll industrial pollution has on our neighborhoods. Too often, heavy industrialized areas are built next to predominantly Black and Brown neighborhoods - subjecting them to contaminated air, water, and soil.

A work of art by Margaret C, exhibited by Shared Skies Initiative - a youth led environmental justice nonprofit fighting for clean air. Margaret, 14, writes that a healthy environment is one where people and nature can thrive together.

A collage by Lydia Faith, calling on us to remember that if we dismantle these corrupt systems that exploit and harm people we must also be able to imagine what a liberated and free world will look like in its place.

A painting by @pu.chello as part of an interactive art piece examining the effects of data centers on the environment and economy.

REBOOT is a zine that started this summer, the first issue ā€œStories & Analytics from the Data Center Resistanceā€ is available to read for free online at letsgonetwork.org/reboot by @jac_que_lyn.jpeg

compilation finishing ā€˜Of Towering Roots’

I have a habit of not planning my paintings, I have an initial inspiration / idea of what it means, and where it’s heading, but I tend to discover more while I’m working on it that sitting and planning it

I had thought I’d finished this painting a while ago, let it sit, and realized something was missing - I added this large skeletal spirit, who I imagined coming to life in that transitional blue hour before the sun rises and the moon sets by @jac_que_lyn.jpeg

šŸ’› ARTIST HIGHLIGHT šŸ’›

ā€œJackie Tao Law is a second generation Chinese diasporic painter and illustrator. She grew up on the Gulf Coast of Florida and is now based in Dallas. Through her art she explores her connection to the lush nature of her hometown, her family’s heritage, and emotional expression - all sublimated into a personal mythology. When not painting she enjoys reading, biking, or playing table top games!ā€

We are excited to highlight local Artist, Jackie Tao Law, at our upcoming art show against data centers on October 10th at 7:00 PM at Weston Gardens!

Come out and check out her work! Make sure to follow her on insta @jac_que_lyn.jpeg

Why are we having our art show at Weston Gardens? Fort Worth City Council approved Black Mountain to build their $10 billion hyperscale data center RIGHT by several neighborhoods and the Weston Gardens. AND WE WILL KEEP FIGHTING THEM.

SECURE YOUR TICKET NOW! This event is free and family-friendly. Make sure to invite your loved ones!

earlier this summer I made this banner for a block party to save the people’s house - Dallas’ city government wants to sell public land, demolish the current city hall, and move elsewhere and they want to rush the process. it would be a move that erases more of Dallas’ history and for what? in a time where every part of living is already carved up for sale, it’s important to not let city hall be a part of that

I put this together so that people could envision themselves in city hall - I.M. Pei built it for the people, we should be able to have a say in it

keep up to date with updates from @savedallascityhall
- keep an eye on the upcoming October ballot and pay attention to the local news! email your city council rep if you can’t attend city council meetings! and support your local libraries! by @jac_que_lyn.jpeg

I’ve been watching a lot of movies, all inspiring:

1. Akira, saw it for the first time during the theatrical re-release, could barely believe my eyes
2. Phir Milain Gey directed by Huzaifa Ejaz @films_by_h a short film that I cried my eyes out that I saw at the Dallas Asian American Film Festival @daafilmfest
3. Coyote vs Acme, saw it in a packed theater and it was such good fun
4. El Llorón directed by Rodrigo Moreno Fernandez @rodmorf a short film that I laughed my heart out at that I saw at the Dallas Latino Film Festival @latinoculturalcenter
5. Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, similarly saw in a packed theater and lots of laughs, excessive onscreen blood, crazy soundtrack

I love my aunt @lovigoyalyu and am super excited for her to be publishing her first book! šŸ’Œ Her and my uncle have always been there for me so it was so meaningful to work on something for her! She’s known me since I was merely two years old, I’ve seen her kids (my cousins) grow up too, and we shared the same love of reading and would swap our chapter books! šŸ“š

To grow up and see her dream come true of publishing a book is so wonderful and I know it’s only the start. I’ve read her drafts and heard her ideas over the years and to contribute a little to her journey as an author by designing her banner has been so fun and an amazing way to create art for someone you love🧔

If you know any kids that are starting to read chapter books, then check out Lovi’s first book - Princess Bulldog! Coming out September 8th šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰
