This year, I joyfully celebrate 40 years of membership in @akasorority1908! My journey began in 1985 with the Zeta Rho Chapter at Central Michigan University, proudly rooted in the @akagreatlakes Region. Throughout the remainder of the year, I’ll be sharing 40 of the many things I cherish about our beloved sisterhood.

We are ready to SOAR with AKA® as we grow "Greater Together" in the Great Lakes Region!

Many of you already know, but I am excited to share that I have been appointed to serve as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Great Lakes Regional Program Chairman under the loving and gracious leadership of Gwendolyn L. Kirtley, Great Lakes Regional Director.

I remain humbled, dedicated, and committed to collaborating with the dynamic chapters in the Great Lakes Region on implementing the Sorority's impactful Progam Initiatives. Thank you, Great Lakes Regional Director Gwendolyn Kirtley, for the opportunity to serve! It is an honor and privilege to serve as both Great Lakes Regional Representative to the International Program Committee and Regional Program Chairman. To whom much is given, much will be required (Luke 12:48).

With over 7,000 members from the great states of Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Western New York, and Western Pennsylvania, we are united to SOAR to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood.

My heart is full after an incredible Undergraduate Leadership Institute!

Watching our undergraduate sisters learn, lead, connect, and embrace the power of sisterhood was truly inspiring. Their energy, brilliance, and commitment to service remind us that the future of our sisterhood is bright.

To every undergraduate who showed up ready to grow, I am so proud of you. Keep leading boldly, serving with purpose, and defining greatness wherever you go.
Champions Define Greatness, and greatness begins with YOU!

A special thank you to our 23rd Great Lakes Regional Director, Patricia A. Wilson, for joining us and showing her continued love and support for our undergraduate sisters. We are grateful for your presence and the legacy of leadership you continue to share throughout the Great Lakes Region. 🩷💚

Champions Don’t Haze. Champions Define GREATNESS.

As we observe National Hazing Prevention Week, it is an important time for us to come together as a sisterhood and reaffirm our commitment to the safety, dignity, and well-being of every current and prospective member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. Alpha Kappa Alpha maintains a zero-tolerance policy against hazing in any form and we will continue to create a culture of respect, care, and support throughout our sisterhood.

The GREAT Great Lakes Region is full of courageous CHAMPIONS who SET THE STANDARD. We lead by example. We honor and protect our sisterhood. We look out for one another by speaking up. We engage in prevention work.

Let’s do our part to BUILD, PROTECT, and LEAD! Comment with 💜 to show your personal commitment against hazing!

Today we celebrate a true legend — Phyllis E. Robinson. Initiated in 1976 into Eta Iota Omega Chapter (Inkster, MI), she’s a 50-year member who’s done it all, including serving as our 22nd Great Lakes Regional Director and later as Second International Regional Director under former International President Eva L. Evans.

Her legacy speaks for itself: she launched the Golden Soror and Silver Star ceremony, created the “Open a Book; Open a Mind” reading program, chartered four chapters across two countries — and even opened the first undergraduate chapters outside the continental U.S.! And that’s on top of a 40+ year career in education, including a doctorate from Wayne State.

Through it all, one thing’s stayed constant — when AKA calls, Phyllis always says yes.

So let’s show her some love! Flood our Facebook and Instagram with your birthday wishes today.

Happy birthday, Phyllis — here’s to many more trips around the sun! by @jacdbaka1908

From meetings to reading books to students, celebrating Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, officially launching the 2026–2030 International Program at Champion Impact Day in Atlanta, GA, and everything in between… whew, last week was FULL! 💕💚

But more than anything, it reminded me: I can do anything I put my mind to.

Every meeting. Every moment. Every opportunity to serve. Every room I’m blessed to walk into is another chance to show up, pour in, and keep becoming.

Champions, never underestimate what you’re capable of. Dream it. Work for it. Pray over it. And then GO BE GREAT. 🏆✨

Because Champions Define Greatness and sometimes greatness looks like simply showing up, doing the work, and giving it your all.

🏆 CHAMPIONS DON’T JUST SHOW UP …… WE PREPARE TO WIN.

Today, our Great Lakes Region Committee Chairs and Co-Chairs stepped into Champions Training Camp for a day of strategy, collaboration, leadership development and preparation for the work ahead.

Led by our 31st Great Lakes Regional Director, Jackie Davis-Betserai, today was about getting in position, knowing the playbook and making sure every leader is equipped to execute with excellence.

From championship conditioning and position breakouts to game-day simulations and team formation, one thing was clear:

We know the assignment. We know our roles. And we’re ready for GAME DAY. 🏆

Because in the Great Lakes Region, Champions Define Greatness.

A night of sisterhood, legacy, gratitude, and GREATNESS. 🩷💚🏆

The Great Celebration honoring Great Lakes Regional Director Jackie Davis-Betserai was more than a reception, it was a beautiful reflection of the journey, the people, and the purpose that brought her to this moment.

Surrounded by family, friends, chapter sisters, former Great Lakes Regional Directors, and those who have supported her along the way, Regional Director Davis-Betserai reflected on more than 40 years of sisterhood and service, from her initiation into Zeta Rho Chapter at Central Michigan University to now leading more than 7,000 members across the Great Lakes Region.

Her message was clear: this moment is bigger than one person. It belongs to all of us.

It’s about strengthening our chapters, loving and supporting our sisters, developing the next generation of leaders, serving our communities with excellence, and honoring the legacy of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® while boldly building upon it.

And as we step into this new era together, we know one thing for certain…

Great Lakes Region Champions Worship Together!

What a beautiful Sunday of faith, fellowship, sisterhood, praise and worship!

Members of the Great Lakes Region gathered at Greater Allen African Methodist Episcopal Church for the Honoring Women of Faith Women’s Day Service, where 30th International President Dr. Glenda Baskin Glover served as the guest speaker.

There is special blessing about sisters coming together and lifting our voices in praise! We worshipped together, received an inspiring word, and left encouraged to continue walking in faith and purpose. 🙏🏾💗💚

A GREAT Sunday of sisterhood, faith and worship!
