Lester | Insidious: Out of the Further
At Jacfx studio we created many dental prosthetics for Insidious: Out of the Further, including the three Hero Acolytes, Cyrus, the Pigtail Girl, and the hero and stunt-double performers.
The standout challenge was this Lester's in-mouth broken-hair molar gag in the dentist-chair sequence. We built on the miniature rare-earth magnet techniques inside teeth we have developed previously: in this case, two-piece broken molars held closed by magnets, with a precision channel for the hair to travel through that makes the hair break the molar cleanly at a set point. It meant fast, repeatable resets on set in a small, tight, and challenging environment.
Working from intra-oral scans, we made the molars as modular units that slide in and out of a 1:1 perfect replica of Lester's lower teeth. We handed our digital assets and the finished upper and lower dental units to Odd Studios for their beautiful puppet head, we recorded tooth-by-tooth shade values and stained our teeth accordingly so the transition between actor and puppet is seamless.
Many thanks to @jacobschase Director for his incredible vision. chiara_tripodi_makeup Make up designer again for choosing us to create her Dental Prosthetics. Many thanks to Adam, Damian and the team @OddStudios for trusting us with this cool dental effect and @josephlloydlopez for his dental patience under pressure in the chair. WATCH IT NOW AT HOME!

This is make-up designer Helen Magelakis @helsbels_hairmakeup Gnome Queen she created for Gnomes now out on Stan Australia. @wickedofoz supplied some beautiful prosthetics to get the cracked skin effect and she used lots of layers upon layers of other stuff to fill in the gaps. Contact lenses were from @9mmsfx
At @jacfxstudio we made the dental prosthetics from Helens brief, and we wanted to give them a subtle blurred crazed look over the very white actors teeth which hard to see over the Color of the 3D-printed models. Zoom in 😉
The wig was purchased and dressed in-house using 1 metre length extensions as Helen wanted it very long and bits of hair at the back came down to the knee and Helen used leather and old cloth to give it the look of ageing @tesshaubrich actor was amazing in this look.

This was a Gold and Opal bridge we made for Make up designer @becburatto_makeupartist and actor @markmitchinson__
“Doug” The Mayor
As described in the Sydney Morning Herald, he is a “‘mayor’ with iridescent opals for teeth who favours a fetching blue frock when he’s not reclining in his bathtub drinking beer.”
We waxed up and cast the gold bridge with microns of relief and hand painted and light cured multiple layers of dental resin to give the opal finish a sense of depth that only real opals have.
I think we achieved something really beautiful. Thank you 🙏🏽 Bec for trusting me with your Dental prosthetics again. Thanks to @robroy23 . If you haven’t seen the series check it out on @abciview Stella performances from Mark , @michaeldorman81 and Liv Hewson.
