Looking back at last week’s magical dinner celebrating my new book, The Summer House. Thanks to my fabulous friend @jackyeaton, a vacant floor of the @bostondesigncenter was the setting for a beautiful summer-themed dinner, replete with brillant blue hydrangeas, lobster, and candles in wicker holders. I have so much gratitude and love for all who came together in honor of the special havens showcased in the book. 💙

My cousin Meredith recently sent me our grandma Grace’s Burberry trench coat. Gram died in 2003, and I don’t remember her wearing it, but we know she bought it in London in the early 1980s.

The fashion lover in me treasures it for the icon that it is—the craftsmanship, the history, the fact that more than 40 years later, it’s still in near-perfect condition. But of course, it means so much more to me than that.

I love that my cousin knew I would appreciate it. The coat never fit her quite right—all of my cousins are enviably tall, while I hover at 5’4” (and a half!) on a good day. But what gets me most is that, more than two decades after Gram died, it somehow feels like I received a gift from her out of the blue.

I see you, I imagine her saying. I knew you’d love this.

Now I’m determined to comb through the archives at my parents’ house and find a photo of Gram wearing it. My parents are the keepers of all the photos from my dad’s family, so I know there’s a chance one exists. I just need life to calm down enough to go looking…ha! Stay tuned. 🤎

When I pulled out this dress last week, I realized I have 3 brown and white polka dot dresses. Surely, no one needs that many—but for some reason I’m always drawn to the motif. Maybe I’m channeling the iconic dress Julia Roberts wore in Pretty Woman’s polo match scene or maybe it’s because I love a good neutral pairing with some life to it. Either way, brown with white polka dots is a timeless look—note that Princess Kate fancied a similar frock a few years ago—there’s a slew of variations available now. And the one I’m wearing is currently on sale. 🤎
