Look ma, double knee bar no hands rest! Had an amazing day out at Froggatt this weekend getting some trad mileage in. Massive props to @reecebcooper for hanging around in the wind to get these incredible snaps 👊

This route was a special one. Besides the quality of the moves, the amazing view and exposure, this was a milestone I've been working towards for a while now. Thanks to everyone who's climbed with me over the last year, it has been a pleasure 🤙

Had a fun weekend showing the pals around Portland. Was super impressed with how they all performed on their first sport climbs outdoors. Fallen slab has been on my list to do for a while, but I've never gotten round to venturing down there. Josh was feeling bold after the first day of top roping and fancied a go on the sharp end. He absolutely smashed it, and it was the perfect opportunity for me to finally check it out some of these routes.

Getting back into the swing of things. Signs of my hiatus are creeping through - overgripping for dear life, janky foot placements and just generally feeling terrified above the bolts are all fun things to be dealing with again 😂

It was nice to be able to drag myself up a route this weekend though!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! For those I haven't caught up with recently...

I suffered a pretty significant knee injury in October, getting a little over confident on a trampoline and forgetting that I may no longer be as nimble as I'd like to be. The bill of works was as follows: torn ACL, torn lateral and medial meniscus, torn patella tendon, fractured tibia. I'm back on my feet again, but surgery is required for a full recovery, which means that I won't be out on rock again for at least a year. As gutting as that diagnosis has been, so far I've managed to stay reasonably positive about it - making gains in my knee strength and range of motion has proven to be very satisfying (god knows I haven't seen any gains in my climbing for a while 😆).

I guess that's it for now. Thanks to everyone I climbed with this year, old friends and new. I hope you all have a great year of climbing in 2025. See you on the other side. by @jack.tries.hard

2023 came and went too quickly! I felt like I hadn't got a lot done this year, but on reflection I'm pretty happy with where my climbing has progressed to. Though I didn't manage to tick any big objectives, I feel like I'm on the road to achieving some of my longer term goals and looking forward to continuing the journey this year.

After finishing Jerry's book Revelations early in Jan, I was really keen to try my hand at some of the Peak's iconic limestone routes. One route stood out to me in particular - the eponymous route itself, Revelations.

I managed to get a couple of sessions on Revelations early on, but progress tapered when I decided to introduce an adorable new member to the crew - Mabel the Shiba. Unsurprisingly, my training took a bit of a hit, but Mabel's crag dog training is going well and she looks forward to seeing you at the crag soon!

Here's one of my early sessions on Revelations. I was reluctant to post this footage, but thought sometimes it's interesting to see what things look like at the start of the process. by @jack.tries.hard

Back at the wave! I like to think this is where my sport climbing journey began, when I was trying to transform myself from indoor gym boulderer to outdoor adventure climber. I'm still on that journey, with much further to go, but it was great to come back here and try some of these short bouldery routes.

When you're on the send burn and @nayshan_ and @shrapnel_base are doing their best to put you off 😆 Who knew these made such an almighty crack when the canopies open. All ends well though with the boys landing safely and me securing the tick (and the added bonus of a pretty sick video) 🙌

Good to be back in Cheddar 🧀 I recently started trying Right-hand Man up at the Remnant. I've really been enjoying the process on it so far, but man I'm finding it haaaaard! As a bit of a reprieve, I thought I would warm up on another route I'd been meaning to try - Spy in the Sky. I'd heard from a few people it was on the softer side and fancied myself a quick tick. In reality, I found myself on struggle street and had a bit more of a fight on this one than anticipated.

Anyway, in the end, I was too worked to even get on the proj. Oh well... such is climbing 🤷‍♂️

A rather sunny weekend in the gorge! @lawrencerowles and @matts_ascents came down to join me, @dylanasena and Omi for their first taste of Cheddar climbing. Hoping they enjoyed the unique style of the Cheddar limestone and will be back for many more sessions 🤙
