✨PLAIN SIGHT EXHIBITION LAUNCH!

You’re invited to the launch of Plain Sight at SIGNAL on Thursday 24 September, 6–8pm!

The exhibition celebrates SIGNAL receiving a Freelands Award 2026 from Freelands Foundation (@freelandsfoundation) for our 2025 Artist Development Lab, and brings together work by Signal Associate artists and Lab mentors, Jack Brown (@jackbrownwork), Felicity Hammond (@flisshammond) and Mishka Henner (@mishkahenner).

Plain Sight explores our relationships with the environments we inhabit. Moving from local perspectives to global realities, the works question how environments impact our daily lives and confront the forces that remain outside of our control.

The launch also marks the beginning of our new 2026 Artist Development Lab, which will bring together a new exciting cohort of artists to explore themes of landscape and protest.

Join us to celebrate!

W.I.P.

Working out a new series of video works for a solo show @pinkmcr_

taking polariod photographs on roundabouts and filming them as they develop. You end up with a very slow appearance if an image over a 'live action' film of whats captured in the reflective surface of the polariod its self.

more to follow in the coming months

Two of my 'The grease marks left by a passengers hair on a bus window' prints at the Royal Academy Summer Show @royalacademyarts

In the Wohl Central Hall.

Exhibition catalogue quote

'This is the fourth gallery hung by Ryan Gander RA, and it occupies what he refers to as ‘a cognitive space’, a place for contemplation rather than immediate reaction. Here, however, he deliberately subverts the grand setting. Gathered in the centre of the room is a cluster of four sculptures in different media, including works by Sir Anish Kapoor RA, Kevin Francis Gray and Nigel Hall RA, above which floats Hannah Perry’s Hard Love.

On the walls of the octagon Gander has hung pairs of large artworks by many artists that he has worked with and feels a particular affinity with: Frances Stark, Martin Boyce, Paulina Olowska and Caragh Thuring RA. These formidable pairings reflect what Gander playfully refers to as a conventional hang. However, he punctures the formality by placing smaller works high up on the wall, including Paul Tecklenberg’s Safety Net and Fiona Clasen’s Cloudform. Again, Gander is drawn to the work of both established and emerging artists, such as Nick Davies’s conceptual T-Shirt Word Piece (After Keith Arnatt) and Sarah Simpkin’s Errata, Void Exhibits (Burlington House, Central Hall).

Gander’s two antique mirrors draped with sheets made of marble, I Be…, provide an enthralling sense of drama in the room.'

In some very good company.

Other prints and editions from the 'grease mark' series still available @gertrude__art at £250 each

ARTIST TALK @paradiseworks_ 25th July 2pm - 3pm

Join Liv Jarman in conversation with @jackbrownwork as she welcomes her debut solo exhibition: Lead into Gold.

TW : This artist talk will include themes of addiction, grief and spirituality.

Liv Jarman:
Liv Jarman (b.Walsall, 2000) a multidisciplinary artist from Walsall, based in Manchester for eight years with a studio at Paradise Works. I explore the human experience, what addiction does to the body, mind and spirit and how as humans we overcome pain, heartbreak and dysfunction. I want to share my life so you can share yours. I invite the viewer to slow down and reflect on their own life, actions and behaviors and look at the generations before them. I truly believe with action we can change collective consciousness to arrive at a collective state of peace and serenity.

Jack Brown:
Jack Brown is a visual artist working in (and in the spaces between) sculpture, painting, response to site, print, public action, drawing, photography and video.
A multidisciplinary practice mirroring the world it’s drawn from.
New works begin with source material pulled from the edges of our collective reference pools. These starting points are altered, remade or relocated before being cast back into the world as artworks. Meaning emerges in this ‘remaking’, in the collision of source, extraction processes, material, making processes, media, situation, site and public interaction.
Interventions in the wider world, collaborations and manipulations, moments of poetry and flashes of meaning; my practice can be seen as an investigation into ways of making and how those made objects or moments interact with the world around them.

This exhibition is supported by Creative Mentor Network and Arts Council England’s Developing Your Creative Practice fund.

Studio process.

Making 'Kerb, Gutter, floral foam' 2025.

Loads of experiments, mistakes, tests, lists, material combinations in the making of these floral foam works.

Specifically working out how to soak or embalm these foam sheets with resin so they wouldn't fade, warp or discolour.

Worked out adding about 10% rubbing alcohol meant the resin sets with a slight flex, so its forms a strong flexible and invisible coating on the surface of the foams sheets.
