Ryan Gander RA did a fantastic job curating the Wohl central hall. The work flows aesthetically and conceptually. I particularly like his marble drapes next to a string net made from shiny laughing gas bulbs, and that it is hung so high. Only one week to go before everything is taken down, packed up, sent to new owners or back to the studio or storage. All profits go to finance the RA schools, the only free post grad art college in London. If you would like to donate, buy a ‘Safety Net’, 43% goes to the students.

Forlengelser ~ Research Week!

Last month, we had the pleasure of hosting @ranneigrenne alongside @k.a.t.e.butcher + @carlos.alberto.correia, aka @butcher.correia.studio, bringing another slice of Trondheim to Manchester!

The three artists are the next international guests in our curatorial programme + will bring a reimagining of their project Forlengelser to PINK in October 2026.

First produced for @babeltrondheim, Forlengelser is a performance-exhibition created by @ranneigrenne in collaboration with artist duo @butcher.correia.studio. Bringing choreography + visual art together, the project explores how dance might operate as a quiet protest against productivity, efficiency + constant growth.

We always host a research week ahead of producing an international project. We believe artists need time to explore a place, build relationships, follow new lines of enquiry + let the body settle before deeper work begins.

Across the week, we visited spaces, met artists + curators, shared food, walked, talked + began thinking through how Forlengelser might take shape in a new context.

Thank you to every curator, artist, organisation + friend who welcomed us in and shared their time, spaces, ideas + knowledge so generously. These early conversations form an important part of how the project develops, and we’re grateful to everyone who helped make the week feel so open + full.

More on the project coming soon! Four people pose around road signs for Deva City Office Park and Audacious Church on a wet Manchester street, with red-brick buildings and trees behind them.

#REPOST @livjarman - ARTIST TALK @paradiseworks_ 25th July 2pm - 3pm

Join Liv Jarman in conversation with @jackbrownwork as she welcomes her debut solo exhibition: Lead into Gold.

TW : This artist talk will include themes of addiction, grief and spirituality.

Liv Jarman:
Liv Jarman (b.Walsall, 2000) a multidisciplinary artist from Walsall, based in Manchester for eight years with a studio at Paradise Works. I explore the human experience, what addiction does to the body, mind and spirit and how as humans we overcome pain, heartbreak and dysfunction. I want to share my life so you can share yours. I invite the viewer to slow down and reflect on their own life, actions and behaviors and look at the generations before them. I truly believe with action we can change collective consciousness to arrive at a collective state of peace and serenity.

Jack Brown:
Jack Brown is a visual artist working in (and in the spaces between) sculpture, painting, response to site, print, public action, drawing, photography and video.
A multidisciplinary practice mirroring the world it’s drawn from.
New works begin with source material pulled from the edges of our collective reference pools. These starting points are altered, remade or relocated before being cast back into the world as artworks. Meaning emerges in this ‘remaking’, in the collision of source, extraction processes, material, making processes, media, situation, site and public interaction.
Interventions in the wider world, collaborations and manipulations, moments of poetry and flashes of meaning; my practice can be seen as an investigation into ways of making and how those made objects or moments interact with the world around them.

This exhibition is supported by Creative Mentor Network and Arts Council England’s Developing Your Creative Practice fund.

What a four days it’s been 🖤

Spending time immersed in Ai Weiwei’s work through Button Up at Factory International, hearing him speak in his artist talk, and witnessing his 24-hour performance has been an experience I’ll carry with me for a long time.

I first studied Ai Weiwei during my BA, so to now see his work in person, hear his thoughts firsthand, and experience his presence has felt incredibly full circle. It’s reminded me why his practice has been so influential - not only as an artist, but as someone who continues to question power, challenge injustice, and use creativity as a form of resistance.

One thing that has stayed with me most isn’t just the work itself, but Ai Weiwei’s character. To spend your life confronting such heavy themes; war, politics, aggression, freedom, censorship, and the suppression of society…. and yet remain so humorous, secure, down-to-earth, and gentle is everything this world needs more of.

If there’s one thing I’ll take away from these few days, it’s a quote Ai Weiwei shared (which he said he learned from his son, Ai Lao):

“If your heart is calm, all is well.”

Thank you for the experience @aiww @aiweiwei_studio and shout out to all those involved at @factory_international for making it happen. I urge everyone to go and see the exhibition this summer. I already know I need to go back ❤️

The pages from my magazine explaining process behind “traces” my final major project for @hca_foundation_diploma

TRACES
The world is becoming increasingly digital drawing humanity into a world that is rapidly becoming disconnected. In this project I wanted to explore the tangible connections between people and display the importance of real connection.

Inspired by the work of jackbrownwork I used forensic techniques to collect marks people had left behind them. Fascinated by the examples of connections between people, I collected old postcards from a charity shop that had traveled all over the world.

As part of my passion for sustainable design I used the fabric from my friend’s old tent and transformed it using dyeing and printing techniques.

I was first inspired to explore the importance of human connection through listening to the @casualmagicpodcast hosted by @unjadedjade .

Day 9 of our 12 days of Christmas Contemporary Art Advent Calendar ✨️ is @jackbrownwork with his work Trinkets. 2019.

Signal Film and Media. Barrow in Furness.

A set of trinkets or good luck charms have been attached to silver necklaces and hung within the street grids of Barrow.

Each trinket has been made from items Jack has collected since he was a child; marbles, shiny stuff, toys cars, buttons – small objects charged with personal hidden meaning, full of luck, good fortune and mystic power.

They are there now, somewhere in Barrow, hanging under the towns surface, within its civic infrastructure, just out of sight, warding off misfortune, occasionally glinting in the sun and catching someone’s eye.

Visit his website to view the film https://jackbrown.me.uk/the-trinkets/

Come back tomorrow to see our day 10! 🎄
