Well, this has been an odd week. For those of you who don’t know, I was admitted to the hospital on Sunday around midday due to upper back/chest pains and difficulty breathing. I had Brandon bring me to the ER, fully expecting that they would do an EKG and x-ray just to send me on my way (like every other experience I’ve ever had). Much to my surprise, they came back and said that I had a partially collapsed lung and they would need to do a thoracoscopy to repair it over the course of a few days. I’ve never been admitted to a hospital before… it’s weird.I’m doing okay, and well on track for to recovery though I’ve still got a few days of treatment ahead of me.

I feel incredibly lucky. I know I’ve seen countless stories about people and their loved ones experiencing non-COVID emergencies and being unable to receive care. I am humbled by my luck and feel terrible for anyone else experiencing these troubles.

This happened out of nowhere. No warning and no medical history to think it was even a remote possibility. The thing is, these things can just… happen.

For this reason I implore that everyone get vaccinated for COVID-19. If not to prevent you or others from getting the virus, than to keep beds open at our hospitals and our essential workers from being overworked. I shudder to think how this situation would have played out if it had happened merely weeks ago here in Austin.

I’m touched and grateful for the support I’ve had thus far from my loved ones and I love you all.
