People often ask me what I do for a living. The simplest answer is that I facilitate healing through therapies such as reflexology, Reiki and craniosacral therapy.

But that isn’t really what I do.

If I had to describe it, I simply offer the pause, the listening space, the liminal state.

And it is an honour, every single time, to witness a client’s journey.

Sometimes those feelings are like a deep exhale after carrying the weight of the world for a long time.

Sometimes they are feelings of peace, clarity or reconnection.

At other times, old feelings surface. Grief is acknowledged. Insights emerge. The body begins processing what words never could.

No two sessions are ever the same because no two people arrive with the same story.

The wisdom, the answers and the healing already exist within.

After 26 years I still love to share reflexology with clients and students. My young self would have been most surprised to be working with people’s feet! In loving memory of my adventure cat, Matisse. Six years in Spirit, always in my heart. When Matisse was 14, she was diagnosed with diabetes- something I later discovered is a relatively common genetic condition in Australasian Burmese cats.

Diabetes entails schedules, monitoring and adjusting- not only for your feline companion but also for you.

There can also be some unacknowledged grief, anger, guilt and/or resentment present when that diagnosis is made.

The most important thing we defined straight away was that she was still Matisse, but with a metabolic imbalance called diabetes and that she was NOT ‘diabetic’. We must always be careful about names and labels, as these labels can become identities. We should always see them as Divine perfection in a feline body.

Along with insulin, a holistic wellness programme became a big part in increasing her quality of life and to keep her thriving.

Matisse thrived so much that on one visit to the vet, when her prognosis was not considered good, she was dubbed a Miracle Cat.

📸She loved road trips and this is a photo her on a particularly memorable tour in New Zealand, Auckland to Rotorua to Lake Waikaramoana to Gisborne and back to Auckland again. A two day getaway that turned into a spontaneous 10 day adventure. Led all the way by Matisse. Uggg.. I am really not feeling motivated this morning. Sometimes it is so hard to find that spark to get going when you are self employed.

You wonder if you’re doing enough, going in the right direction or whether anyone is even noticing or caring.

One of my most liked posts recently on Insta featured a photo of a fancy cocktail.😂

But confidence to get started or keep going isn’t about always feeling certain.

Maybe today you don’t need a big plan. Maybe you just need to spread your wings a little.

Send an email. Make a post. Reach out to someone. Try out an idea that has been fermenting.

Confidence grows with a little action.

Sometimes, being self-employed means waking up with zero motivation.
But to be fair, I have just had three busy days enriching the lives of clients.
So I have decided to enrich my day with some rest.
Rest is where ideas have room to breathe.  It’s where your nervous system gets to settle. It’s where creativity returns.
As entrepreneurs, there is just as much courage in stepping back and taking a breath.
So just for today, embrace the gifts of the pause.
