San Japan 2026 was an absolute blast this past Labor Day weekend, but carrying armor around the Henry B. González Convention Center and the parking garage for 2 days straight was a massive workout. As a stormtrooper cosplayer, navigating a crowd of over 35,000 people with limited peripheral vision was a challenge, but the energy from my friends at this 17th annual con made it entirely worth it. At 13,161 feet, Wheeler Peak is New Mexico’s highest point. Wheeler Peak New Mexico: The highest natural point in New Mexico. It stands at an elevation of 13,161 to 13,167 feet. It sits in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains inside the Carson National Forest, just northeast of Taos and near the Taos Ski Valley. Named for Major George Montague Wheeler, who led the West-wide Wheeler Survey mapping the U.S. south of the 100th meridian in the 19th century.
