I never imagined I’d be writing something like this.

Following medical advice after the big injury I suffered last season, and despite two operations with 18 months of determined rehab, I’ve been advised to retire from professional football. Despite everything I’ve put into my recovery, it’s clear that returning to the pitch just isn’t possible.

This isn’t how I ever pictured my career ending, and accepting that has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do.

Football has been my life for as long as I can remember. It gave me a sense of identity, a way to dream big, and unforgettable memories. From kicking a ball in the garden to spending 10 years at Chelsea FC, winning a quadruple, and making my League One debut for Wycombe Wanderers, I’ve loved every second.

I know how lucky I am to have lived my dream, something not many get to say, and for that I’ll always be grateful.

To every coach, teammate, physio, fan, staff member, friend, and family member who has been there through it all, thank you. Your belief, support, and care mean more than I can put into words.

Football will always be a part of me, and I’m looking forward to carrying everything it has given me into my next chapter. by @jackwakelyy
