⚽️ FROM FOOTBALL TO FINANCE

Yesterday, Pro-Secure founder Steve Foster had the pleasure of meeting former professional footballer @jackwakelyy at the @the_pfa new offices, alongside Colin Hill of the PFA and Paul Harrison of Pantheon Specialty.

Jack spent almost a decade at Chelsea before continuing his career with Wycombe Wanderers and Ebbsfleet United. Sadly, a serious knee injury eventually forced him to retire from professional football at just 25.

Fortunately, Jack had followed his father’s advice and taken out career-ending injury insurance through Pro-Secure.

His successful claim provided valuable breathing space to plan his next chapter, while support and retraining from the PFA helped him establish a new career beyond the pitch.

Today, Jack is flourishing as an Associate Private Banker at Weatherbys Private Bank, drawing on his own experience to help professional players make informed financial decisions and prepare properly for their futures.

It was incredibly rewarding for Pro-Secure to see Jack doing so well.

His story is a powerful example of how taking the right precautions, receiving the right support and maintaining a positive outlook can help turn an extremely difficult situation into the beginning of something new.

A football career can change without warning. The protection put in place beforehand can make an enormous difference to what happens afterwards.

Had a great catch-up in London last week with Jack Wakely, an ex-pro footballer, now working in private banking.

We were talking about how we can work together to help more athletes get access to the right finance and guidance.

The reality is, complex pay structures, short contracts and irregular income mean athletes need specialist support that most people in finance aren’t set up to provide.

We want to change that.

When someone has lived the career, the conversation gets even more interesting. Excited to see where this one goes… 👀

⚽️ Chelsea’s U18s won the Premier League National Final last week.

🏆 Having topped the Southern League phase they beat Manchester City, the Northern League winners, 5-1 and avenged their 4-1 defeat to the same opponents in the FA Youth Cup earlier in the season.

🙌 The pathway to the first team is difficult although several youth players have debuted this season including Ryan Kavuma-McQueen, Jesse Derry and PL2 Player of the Season Shim Mheuka. For the U18s, there were many excellent performers such as Chizaram Ezenwata and Chelsea’s Scholar of the Year Olutayo Subuloye.

📈 However, early success at academy level does not always guarantee a long professional career.

🤝 We recently met with Jack Wakely who captained Chelsea at youth level, playing alongside the likes of Reece James and winning Premier League 2. After spells at Brighton, Wycombe Wanderers and Ebbsfleet United Jack unfortunately suffered a career ending injury at the age of 24.

💼 However, having invested in his education whilst playing football, Jack has been able to transition easily into a career in wealth management and is currently studying towards the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) qualification.

🌟 Jack is a shining example for young aspiring players to plan early for life after football, embodying the approach we take at CCC.
