Three years ago, I faced a life-altering, devastating challenge when I woke up paralyzed and soon after realized this was something that could be permanent. What initially seemed insurmountable has since evolved into a powerful journey of determination, hope, and perseverance.

What was once intended to defeat me has only given me the strength and grit to recover. I am trying to embrace and celebrate the resilience and courage I have discovered within myself. My journey has led me to a place of faith and growth.

I have had to adapt every part of my life. Having faith and reminding myself “Where God guides, he provides”, has kept me going even though there are times I don’t see him working.

Today, I remember the things I have lost, but also try and celebrate the person I have become and the positives that have come out of my story. I’ve had to remind myself time and time again that God works in the details of all of our lives and no matter what his plan for you is that it is GOOD and I have to believe that about my own life.

These three years I’ve had times of celebration and times of sorrow, but I’m thankful for being able to share a small part of my story with many people. My life may have completely changed, and I’m completely changed. But, I strive to live LIFE to the fullest💚🩵 #lifeday

Everything changed with paralysis one year ago on November 2nd and through this year I have learned that God is greater, who my true friends are, to be thankful for my family, and that hard work pays off.

Who knew life could be turned upside down in a matter of hours. On November 2nd, I started to get severe weakness in my legs which progressed to not being able to walk or move my legs at all. I was in the ER and admitted to the hospital where I have been for a month.

I started off in the hospital getting what felt like millions of MRIs, a spinal tap, lots of ultrasounds, so many of tubes of blood, and other tests. I was then transferred to an acute physical rehabilitation floor where I have 3 hours of physical and occupational therapy a day.

It has been hard to figure out what is causing the scary symptom I’m having, but it’s been determined that I have a type of autoimmune myelitis which is when there is inflammation in the spinal cord.

Even though I am not thankful I’ve had to spend the past month in the hospital and will probably be here for another week or two, I am thankful for the amazing medical staff, my friends, and my family. I have received more love and support then I ever would have expected through the hardest month of my life; I will be forever grateful for the people who have been there for me.

Now it’s time to fight hard, receive the medications I need, and kick butt in PT/OT so that I will be able to walk again. Just another obstacle along the way that I can and will get past. by @jaclynlenhart
