Untitled (High Hopes). 2022 -
43.5” x 22.5” x 21.5” in.
Mother’s discarded pill bottles, orange pill capsules, steel wire, steel chain, and orange spray paint.

________________________________________________

I’ve been collecting my friends & family’s pill bottles for a quite a long time now and for years there was no evident purpose other than the personal recycling. In response to capitalism, as well as a personal vocation; my practice tries to eliminate waste through recycling and re-using whenever possible. In 2022 I began this work in response to personal and societal precariousness felt in the shadow of the pharmaceutical mega giants.
The faux chandelier hangs out of reach of the viewer, above the head, illuminated externally / falsely from gallery lighting.

an Art on Sedgwick Project

Im so grateful to be apart of this project with so many dedicated students, artist & educators. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to this project! It’s hard to express how amazing it is to see this project culminate into such an amazing publication.

Thank you so much to @artonsedgwick & @brandacharlie for coordinating all this, entrusting me with the install, and so much more! Thank you @conceptualartandteaching for all the hard work you and your students have done to get this to print!!
I especially want to thank @oliviamgude for her introduction text to this publication and her thoughtful review of the various projects I created with Art on Sedgwick!!

Selections from my current sketchbook - hoping to put it to rest this year.

Typically my sketchbooks are private, to be shared with those in person or close to me. Sketching and sketchbooks are crucial to my practice- both a compass and a crutch. The sketchbook serves me as a liminal space where the unreal can become real - where the impossible can be imagined and made tangible. There’s an ambivalence at play here like in much of my practice; it’s a Pale Sea where ideas rise to the surface, giving land and life to concepts, but also creating isolating islands where one wanders alone, stranded.

I rather show you in person |

A few images from my solo show “Conflux” at @robertfdecaprioartgallery where I’ll be giving a walkthrough on the exhibition and my practice today at 11a - 1p.

‘Conflux’ utilizes sculptural works to challenge viewers through the complex perspective of labor and the nuanced identities that labor depends upon. Worker narratives - their fabrics and detritus - are transformed into artwork that reflects the conditions of identity, in ambivalence of their labor. In this way, these abstract portraits complicate their labor narratives through formal qualities and modernist aesthetics, with each piece performing in dialogue within the gallery space.
Artworks here are made significant in materials clutching the stains of their wearers'
toil-with serendipitous seepage of the artist's own queer identity in the transformation of these mediums. With these sculptural-works, viewers will be challenged with a complex perspective of labor and the nuanced identities that the labor is dependent on. taken in Robert F.
