100 miles. What a journey.

This was personal for me. I have been chasing the 100 mile mark for 3 years. I had failed every time.

It ate at me. Here I am talking about the importance of doing hard things and living a meaningful life, yet I continually failed at the “hard thing” I had set out to accomplish.

I don’t want to be a person who talks about these concepts but not have my actions match my words.

Finishing this race was about a continuity of identity for me.

“Fixing” the perceived disconnect between who I wanted to be vs. who I am.

And I did it.

I went through so much to get across that line.

Fighting through old injuries.

Forcing myself to train while working long hours with no days off.

Working 10 hours and then running 30 miles after.

Skipping events and social outings to train the dark.

Stressing myself out trying to juggle the business, the podcast, a relationship, and training.

But in this race I found something. The ability to push through — the ability to endure.

Even more than that, in the midst of suffering, I found joy and gratitude.

How blessed am I to have an amazing group of people crew me for 27 hours with no sleep.

How blessed am I to have a body capable of going this distance.

How blessed am I to choose this pain and have the opportunity to learn about myself.

100 miles is no joke, but it’s worth it.

I found what I was looking for, and much more.

Do hard things & live a meaningful life.

Two Years of Another Broken Egg Café 🎉

We were nervous when we started this journey — we were two guys fresh out of college who had never worked in a restaurant before. We had no clue what to expect but trusted that we could figure it out.

Two years in and I think it’s fair to say Wichita loves Another Broken Egg Café.

The results speak for themselves:

🍳 | 130,000+ people have dined with us
⭐️ | 1,200+ 5 star reviews on Google
🍾 | 7,000+ mimosas served

We couldn’t do this without our incredible team.

One thing we’ve really tried to prioritize this year is the difference between service and hospitality.

Service is the baseline.

Your food coming out right.

Your drink getting refilled.

It’s the standard almost everywhere.

Hospitality recognizes that service is the bare minimum.

Hospitality is remembering your name and building a relationship.

It’s free beignets for the kids.

It’s the server who sees you’re having a rough morning and makes it a little lighter.

Service is what we do.

Hospitality is how we make you feel.

We strive for hospitality.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us on this wild journey!

Hard work works.

3 years ago I interviewed Sal Frisella, the CEO of 1st Phorm. I was sick as a dog and it was December 31st. I spent my New Years Eve doing two things:

(1) Editing that episode
(2) Writing out my goals

Now we’re back, 3 years later, with the biggest production I’ve ever done.
