BEN CARLSON.

THE NEWPORT BEACH HERO.

HE WENT WHEN NOBODY ELSE WOULD GO AND SAVED MANY LIVES IN OUR TOWN OF NEWPORT BEACH.

The โ€œBEN DID GO 10.0โ€ on September 13 was amazing!!!

SPENCER PIRDY has been the mastermind of this paddle since day one and has put in endless hours & effort to continue BENโ€™S legacy.

Our Mayor of Newport Beach, Joe Stapleton along with 132 watermen & waterwomen paddled in honer of our friend and fallen lifeguard BEN ~ 30 miles in the open ocean ~ 8 hours of pain across the channel from Catalina Island to Newport Beach.

I am beyond proud of every single paddler for making this crossing. This is what community is all about and I am blessed to be a small part of it.

What a night. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ

The @nac_weareocean Sea of Support gala was an amazing night of incredible people making a wonderful impact on a community that so deserves our support. The cancer fighters and survivors community.

The mantra of the evening was โ€œgreat people doing great things, for others.โ€ (Reminds me of a podcast I know ๐Ÿ˜‰)

This yearโ€™s guests of honor were two icons and amazing members of their respective communities; Paul Naude @visslasurf and McG Nichol @mcgfilm
And their recognition was presented by two other legends, and last years recipients @bobhurley and #dannykwock

Classic night with classic people, amazing music by @mattcostamusic , incredible sponsors and auction item providers, and icons of surf, film, amazing non profit leadersโ€ฆ and lots of friends. Epic night.

I was honored (and anxious) to be this yearโ€™s MC. Pretty cool to be able to present to a crowd of people youโ€™ve looked up to your whole life ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ

Giant praise to the founder of @nac_weareocean the incredible, passionate and determined (and toughest fโ€™er I know) Jack Marshall Shimko @jacoshimanaco

As well as @gabylaurentwrites who nailed it and the always awesome @newportaquaticcenter ED #billywhitford and all of The incredible volunteers(you all know who you are ๐Ÿ™)

To learn more about this amazing organization, you can find it @nac_weareocean and you can find interviews with both @jacoshimanaco and #billywhitford as well as a number of the guests on the @mark_schulein_passion_project โšก๏ธ

Super grateful and proud of the great thing accomplished at this event. Thanks to all involved!

Our last day began with coffee and breakfast provided by @sassafrass805 . We loaded up the vans for our last big adventure.

We took winding roads through farmland all the way to Buellton. The friendly crew from @highlineadventures greeted us, along with their Dalmatian pup.

We loaded into the back of Humvees and rode to the top of the highest mountain, passing fields of Protea flowers along the way.

The competent and kind staff from Highline helped us gear up and begin. Two by two we hooked into the intricate zip line systems, and after many safety checks, away we flew.

Fear was quickly squashed as our faith in @highlandadventures grew. We soared through the air, arms spread wide open as we experienced the longest and fastest zip lines in California. We screamed, we laughed, and we smiled. We became winged creatures for a few moments in time.

We rode back to @sfr_jalama with permanent smiles, proud of what we had accomplished. @sassafrass805 had her famous Tennessee Chicken Sandwiches waiting for us to enjoy.

After lunch we had a wellness afternoon on the ranch. Billy with @deep_space_alchemy guided us through yoga and breath work. Alex @the_unreal_housewife led a nature hike through the hills, cows and horses followed along as they were curious about our campers.

We shared a beautiful meal around the fire, as the WAO crew shared their stories, their reasons why they came back to camp to help make the magic happen.

One last sound bath by Billy was enjoyed by all, a beautiful ending to an unbelievable adventure. This camp crew will be riding the waves of our time on the ranch for many days ahead. These memories will carry us through the hard times ahead. taken in SFR Jalama by @jacoshimanaco

Day 4 started with a leisurely fire-side breakfast and share time. Campers told their stories, explaining how it is they came to WAO Fall Camp. We learned new things about each other, how the pieces of our lives fit together to bring us to @sfr_jalama โ€” We are all at the right place at the right time for this moment.

We rode over to Refugio Beach for a rad beach day. Our friends with (adventure outfitters) guided us through our ocean experiences. The menu for the day was surfing and sea kayaking.

For the majority of our crew, this was our first time surfing. The guides taught us the basics, and out we went. Our arm muscles were strengthened as we paddled into the surf. Our wetsuits kept us warm as we navigated a new way to balance our bodies on the boards. Jack and our guides encouraged us to paddle ahead of the break, and catch the wave in.

We cheered as our new friends caught waves, fell down, and popped back up. Our faces were frozen in permanent smiles at the glory of it all. Surfing at Refugio was an experience we will never forget.

Our amazing catering crew (insert name) prepared a beach BBQ and we ate our fill of grilled tuna and mango salsa. The perfect combo for a beach-side meal.

We continued to surf and paddle the ocean until it was time to travel back to base camp. Another amazing meal around the fire was followed by another once in a lifetime experience.

Billy with (@deep_space_alchemy ) provided our whole crew a sound bath that we will be dreaming about forever. We laid under the open sky as he guided us into what felt like another dimension. His instruments, gongs, bowls, and a didgeridoo sounded waves from here into infinity. We drifted through the sounds as our bodies relaxed after a day in the ocean.

We all went to bed full of peace and ready for our next dayโ€™s adventure. by @jacoshimanaco

Day 3 of camp started early, a breakfast burrito in the vans as we drove south to Ventura. We loaded the ferry, ready for a seemingly normal ride across the great Pacific Ocean. But what happened was far from average.

We enjoyed a colony of sea lions, and many pods of dolphins. We all smiled and enjoyed the scene. Just those animal sightings would have been enough for anyone to check a box on a bucket list.

All of a sudden someone screamed, โ€œwhale!โ€ The boat captain started sharing facts about the mom and babe that had just surfaced.ย ย We were amazed, tears filled eyes as we experienced this once in a lifetime moment. The whales decided to play with us, ducking into the water and coming up on all sides of the boat, giving everyone a show. This continued for 30 minutes, even the captain said, โ€œthese whales are the friendliest in the ocean.โ€

Once we docked at Scorpion Bay on Santa Cruz Island in the Channel Islands National Park @channelislandsnps , our coastal wilderness adventure began. The hilarious @sbadventure crew instructed us on how to thrive in the ocean, and off we went.

In tandem sea kayaks we paddled the wild waters of the Pacific Ocean. The chilled water splashed as we laughed our way in and out of deep and dark caves. A family of sea lions welcomed us in what we called, โ€œThe Cave of Wonders.โ€ย ย Our most rugged adventure yet, we paddled the 93rd biggest sea cave in the world.

Back on dry land we explored the National Park and enjoyed lunch with many island fox sightings. Dolphin pods escorted us back to the mainland, delivering the ultimate combo of a sunset cruise while dancing in the water for our delight.

A pizza dinner out in Ventura was exactly what we needed after a day on the ocean. Laughter filled the air as new friends shared individual experiences with our common denominator, the one thing that we know all too well.

An early bedtime was appreciated by everyone, in anticipation of our next daysโ€™ adventure! taken in Channel Islands National Park, Santa Cruz Island by @jacoshimanaco
