First season back in 7 years, after two kids, playing a sport I genuinely thought I’d completely fallen out of love with.

This season has brought back my love for a game that little Jac was absolutely obsessed with, and I’m so grateful to my team for being such a huge part of that.

And somehow managed to walk away with A1 Best & Fairest, SHNA Team of the Year and ANC President’s Team of the Year.

Couldn’t have done any of it without my team, and especially without my GK. Like our coach said, “their defensive bond is extremely strong & unique, which in a lifetime of netball, some defenders will never experience in a defensive duo.” And I honestly could not agree more.

Both physically and mentally, the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

Running doesn’t come naturally to me. It’s not something I’m effortlessly good at, I find it so hard mentally. But I’m really working on seeing things I’m not good at as just a way to get better rather than not try at all.

But I’m genuinely SO proud of myself for getting through it, especially after saying for years that I would never run 12km. Wouldn’t have been able to do it without the support of @mill.mae1 by my side.

I’m constantly pushing myself to do hard things, but especially to show my kids that you can do hard things. You don’t have to be naturally good at something. You just have to be willing to try, keep showing up and back yourself.

February me who couldn’t run 1km unbroken would be pretty stoked that I kept pushing through the one form of movement I found the most challenging and used to always say “I’m not good at running” or “running just isn’t for me”

Lots of tempo runs, events, zone 2 runs, threshold runs & parkruns since then and I’ve actually started to look forward to it. It’s no longer a form of exercise I avoid!

Keep pushing through the things that challenge you the most 🤍🏃‍♀️✨

Literally so funny because mum me, could beat pre baby me at anything & people tell ‘you can’t do things like this’ post kids. lol.

This isn’t about Sydney Sweeney.

It’s about what we choose to value when we look at women.

Someone sat down in a room and thought this was the angle to take, when it came to promoting a gambling ad? Ugh.

A woman can be strong, fast, powerful, disciplined, competitive and exceptional at her sport… and somehow the conversation still becomes about what she looks like.
And that isn’t harmless.
64% of young girls are reported to drop out of sport and exercise before 16.

Girls also drop out of sport at around twice the rate of boys, and more than 1 in 3 young Australians say body image has stopped them participating in sport or physical activity to some extent.

So when women in sport are reduced to their bodies, it matters.
Because one day, that little girl watching starts asking:

Do I look too big?
Too muscular?
Do I look good doing this?

Instead of: What can my body DO?

And as a mum, THIS is the part I can’t just brush off.

Because I’m not only thinking about how this makes me feel as a woman. I’m thinking about the little girl I’m raising.

I want my daughter to grow up seeing women and thinking I want to be strong. I want to be capable. I want to see what my body can do. Not I wonder if people think I look good.

And I’m thinking about my son too.

I want him to grow up understanding that women are not bodies to be judged, rated or consumed.

Because our kids are watching.

They’re watching what we celebrate.
What we give attention to.
What we normalise.

And I want to raise a daughter who knows her body is powerful, and a son who knows women are so much more than how they look.

Let’s raise girls who want to be strong.
Capable, not just pretty.
And boys who know the difference.

Our bodies are not the product.

What our bodies can DO is the fucking point 🩷

If anything comes from all of us girlies posting about this, I hope it’s that a young girl sees it and thinks, “I want to keep playing.”

That she focuses on what her body can DO, how strong she can be and what she can achieve, rather than learning that her biggest value is how she looks (the bigger issue than a gambling ad!!) 🩷
