For those looking for a creative outlet but who are too busy on weekends for a full-day workshop, I’m offering a 4-week evening linocut course in November @meta4gallery in Port Perry.

Participants will have a chance to try carving both a synthetic soft-cut linoleum and the harder battleship grey. Learn how to transfer your design to the block in reverse, practise the different textural marks that can be made with carving tools, how to properly ink up the block and print on paper by hand using a bamboo baren. Work on two small projects over the four weeks, testing out a variety of different papers, and take home a small edition of prints made from each of your designs.

Allow yourself a couple hours of digital detox each week while creating something new with your hands, a wonderful way to de-stress before the weekend! Perhaps an early Christmas gift for yourself? Or a fun activity to share with a friend?

With all the goldenrod growing in my wild backyard garden right now, and the leaves changing colours & falling in Algonquin Park, I’m getting excited to share the fun of making monotype and gelatin prints using these plants & leaves during my upcoming workshop @fleminghsad . Swipe to get a glimpse into the magic of overprinting colours & textures during this experimental process.

I’ll share all the tips & tricks I know to help you create a beautiful, multi-layered series of prints to take home. Sometimes the results are beautiful enough to frame on their own, other times they can serve as great backgrounds for other artworks, or cut them up to use for new purposes.

My block-printed textiles were popular at the Uxbridge Studio Tour again this year. When art lovers run out of wall space, there are other ways of incorporating art into daily life.

Functional art, otherwise known as “craft”, is often demeaned because it was formerly equated with the aesthetic work women did at home to beautify their family’s living space. And yet we often forget how much art we all benefit from daily in the form of “craft” or “design”.

High-level craft requires a lot of skill, developed through practise. Why not join me for a day of skill-building to learn how to make block-printed textiles yourself? I’ll teach you how to transfer your design to easy-to-carve synthetic linoleum, you’ll practise the different carving marks that can be made and how to roll the ink on with a brayer (roller), and I’ll share the methods I’ve found have worked best for me to achieve a good impression when stamping onto fabric.

Bring textiles you already have at home that you’d like to upcycle, purchase new items to embellish, or print on fabric to turn into something useful at a later time. Best of all, in addition to your hand-printed textiles, you’ll take away the knowledge & skill to print more at home - just in time for gifting to family & friends? A day of creativity in beautiful Haliburton will be a gift to yourself!

Feeling gratitude for the invitation by @eccoartgallerystudios to drop off some of my framed prints and holiday greeting cards, now available for purchase through their House of Art storefront.

If you’re in the area of Lakefield, Ontario, or looking for a scenic day trip in the country, drop by ECCO Gallery to check out the current exhibition of beautiful paintings by @marilyngoslinartist and then pop next door to the House of Art to enjoy a wide variety of other works by local/Canadian artists - including me. So honoured.☺️ taken in ECCO Art Gallery Studios by @jacquieprints

As my tenure working @algonquinartcentre winds down, I’m feeling gratitude for the opportunity to watch the seasons unfold during my weekly drives to & from the Park. There has been lots of cloud/sky watching, some wildlife viewing (moose, bear, loons, fox, and LOTS of wild turkeys), and I’m now enjoying first-hand the Fall colours Algonquin Park is famous for.

You need a permit to stop anywhere in the Park - these can be booked 5 days in advance and can sell out on weekends at this time of year - but you can take a scenic drive through free of charge to soak up the best of the season. The Algonquin Art Centre is open until October 18, then closes for the winter and will reopen in June.

Last week to view “The World Through My Lens” @artgalleryofgeorgina in Sutton, closing next Sunday, October 4.

My mokuhanga print “Medialuna” was selected for inclusion, showing my view across Lago Gutiérrez towards the village of Villa los Coihues, and the mountains in Neuquen province beyond, printed during my residency @taller.radal in Patagonia, Argentina in January/February of this year.

Swipe to see the 4 Shina woodblocks that I carved and printed by hand to build up the 10 layers of this 9”x12” image.

Mokuhanga is traditional Japanese water-based woodblock printmaking. I used Holbein watercolours printed on Heavy Kozuke washi from the @thejppofficial taken in Art Gallery of Georgina by @jacquieprints

Opening Tomorrow! Tradition Transformed, the annual juried art show at the Orillia Museum of Art & History, and I’m pleased to say my mokuhanga print “Salt Spring Vista” was selected to be included. The opening reception takes place Saturday, September 26, 1-3pm with remarks & awards at 1:30pm.

The 32 works chosen for display represent contemporary interpretations of the Canadian landscape, following in the tradition of Orillia native Franklin Carmichael and his peers in the Group of 7. Many thanks to jurors @tanya_cunnington & @bewabonshilling , both painters whose work I greatly admire daily when I’m working at the Algonquin Art Centre.

Unfortunately, I can’t attend the opening in Orillia tomorrow as I’ll be at the @howardironworksmuseum Print Expo & Fair in Oakville, but I look forward to visiting the exhibition @orilliamuseum one day very soon!

NEXT UP - you can find me & my prints at the Howard Iron Works Printing Museum 10am-4pm this Saturday, September 26 where I’ll be a vendor in their marketplace of papermakers, printmakers & hand-bound bookmakers during their annual Print Expo & Fair, part of Culture Days 2026.

While you can visit the @howardironworksmuseum of printing at any time of the year, this day is a great opportunity to see a number of the presses in operation and even make small prints with them yourself! There are several workshops running throughout the day too, pre-registration required.

It’s a hidden gem - hope to see you there! taken in Howard Iron Works Printing Museum by @jacquieprints

Well that’s a wrap! The 41st Uxbridge Studio Tour was another great success, a weekend full of connecting with other artists & art-lovers - and those they dragged along with them! I enjoyed talking to visitors about what relief printmaking is and how mokuhanga prints are made. Thank you to all the friends, family & passers-by who dropped by and were interested to learn more.🤗

Thanks also to my hostess @dboerhof for inviting me back as her guest for a third year, and for the companionship of my fellow tent exhibitors @meghanmonaghanart and @pureharmonydesign . The falling leaves and cool temperatures confirmed Fall, and sweater weather, is officially here.🍂

Couldn’t make the Tour this year? The Uxbridge Studio Tour always runs on the 3rd weekend of September so maybe we’ll see you for the 42nd Tour, September 18 & 19, 2027! 👋 taken in Uxbridge, Ontario by @jacquieprints

Day 2 of the @uxbridgestudiotour and we’re ready for another great day! Thanks so much to everyone who stopped by yesterday with interest to learn more about relief printmaking and the work I make! I’m especially proud that the whole back wall of my tent this year showcases my mokuhanga prints, and I brought more props this year to better illustrate the process.

We’re here until 5pm today so if you’re doing the Tour, are in the area, or are looking for a fun day trip, we would love it if you dropped by to say hi at site 9, 42 Church Street in Uxbridge.🤗 taken in Uxbridge, Ontario by @jacquieprints

I received some wonderful mail from @firefly.books last week! Copies of George A. Walker’s soon-to-be-released 3rd edition of his book, A Woodcut Artist’s Handbook. The 2nd edition was an especially great resource a couple years ago when I was investigating sharpening my carving tools and different methods of image transfer.

So how honoured I was to have George ask to include my mokuhanga print, Usatsu Bonsai - developed during my residency at MI-Lab @cfshe_gallery in Echizen, Japan last year - as a contemporary example of mokuhanga printmaking when he added a chapter on mokuhanga in this 3rd edition. And to find it facing prints by Hiroshige?! Double honour.

George - an incredible wood engraver, book artist, professor at OCAD U, and my original letterpress mentor, will have copies of the 2nd edition of his book @howardironworksmuseum Print Expo & Fair on Saturday, September 26, where I’ll also be a vendor. If you want the 3rd edition, with the chapter on mokuhanga, get in touch with @walkerwoodengraver to be notified once available for purchase.

Thanks so much, George, for this opportunity, and for helping to spread the word about the wonderful process of mokuhanga! taken in Whitby, Ontario by @jacquieprints
