I am filled with so much overwhelming joy, from such an amazing night, shared with such extraordinary artists. Throughout the night I was reminded to keep going, even when the days are tough. I was encouraged to keep making art and sharing our stories because our legacy and history depends on it. I was filled with such love and warmth from familiar faces and brand new ones alike. It was truly the icing on the cake to be cheering on and experiencing this moment with fellow actors that have become family. And just like the ancestors, I knew my mom was beaming down and celebrating with us. Tonight was an extraordinary night. A celebration of perseverance, strength, resilience, and a passion for the art that we love and share. One I will never forget ✨ So grateful to The Negro Ensemble Company, The AUDELCO’s, the spectacular writers, director, cast and crew of Day of Absence / Remaining Absent, and all of our supporters who have walked with us on our journey. With love and gratitude I thank you all and can’t wait to see what’s next! Onward, Upward, Through 💫 taken in Alhambra Ballroom by @jadeellecreates

Whew chile! What a play! What another play! What a cast! What a crew! What a message! What a start to Black History Month! What a time to be alive. And what an experience it was working with @theatrenec at @pennlivearts to perform the satirical play, Day of Absence, written by Douglas Turner Ward, premiering in 1965. And also an equally amazing experience to perform in the premiere of Remaining Absent, a modern day follow up piece, written by @criseliblak . There was so so much love all around and through this group from the start of rehearsals to the end of the cast party. Lifting each other up and encouraging each other forward. The light was just jumping from one person to another energizing the whole production. It was magnetic! And honestly with everything happening in the world, often I feel powerless to share my voice or truly affect change. But I am encouraged that through art I can protest. Through art I can encourage conversation and a different way of thinking. Through art I can invite others to consider another’s experience. And this show did just that! This was one hell of a ride and it’s still going! Look out for Day of Absence and Remaining Absent coming soon to NYC! You won’t want to miss it! #happyblackhistorymonth #negroensemblecompany #pennlivearts #dayofabsenceplay #remainingabsentplay taken in Annenberg Center For the Performing Arts, Or Administration by @jadeellecreates

We have this one bold and beautiful life…why not live it 💫 There just aren’t words to express how this trip truly changed my life. It made me stronger, bolder, more confident in myself, more sure. It helped me navigate with an open heart. And helped me to be truly mindful. I opened all my senses to this magnificent world around us, and left feeling fuller because of it. I am in awe and incredibly humbled by the kindness I was met with all along my journey. You wonderful souls thank you for highlighting this trip with such color and light. Thank you France, from the bottom of my ♥️ . Until we meet again ✨ taken in France by @jadeellecreates

My Heart is so very full 💜 Today I had the honor and privilege of Directing my very first project ever! An Episode of the @justbrunchws web series! I never would have imagined I would be saying this, and yet here I am. A product of a kind and loving community that has welcomed me with open arms and given me the permission to try. And boy am I so glad that they did! From the folks who planted the seed, to the peeps who sent me their shot lists, to the producers who reviewed them, to the DP’s that sat with me and affirmed my vision and then brought it to life, to the one who created it all and gave me the opportunity, and all the friends who have cheered me on up to this point and all along the way, and I’m sure far beyond this! Boy I am GRATEFUL! Now wish me luck in post LOL! Honored, Humbled, Taken Aback, In Awe. Can’t wait for yall to see it! I’m a creative ✨ and It’s moments like these that affirm that. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Two years ago today, I experienced something truly magical. I had my first ever opportunity to act on a movie set 🎬 When I arrived I was greeted with a smile and a vote of confidence. Then the hair and make up artist got to work on me, making me feel right at home. I was thankful to be taken care of by someone who looked like me. Representation matters 🫶🏾 Then later on the director came over with his jolly presence and asked me if I had any questions about anything. I chopped it up with some of the cast and crew. And then when it was my go time everyone was so kind and supportive. Special shout out to the kind soul who took these photos. 📸 I didn’t make the Final Cut but that’s not the point. It was the fact that someone believed in me and gave me the opportunity to shine; which ignited my confidence and made me think hey you really can do this acting thing. 💫 My acting journey since has been nothing short of amazing experiences with talented and incredibly beautiful people. Allowing me to grow and learn not only about this art, but also about Jade. Who I am, who I’ve been, and who I can be 💁🏾‍♀️ My life has become fuller because of this craft. And I’m looking forward to the opportunity to keep building it as it’s building me. Thank you to the crew and cast of Hidden Exposure 🔥. And thank you to my photo app for the sweet reminder 💜😌✨ by @jadeellecreates

And that’s a wrap! What a show! What a time! What a ride! I learned so much about the life of Mae Jemison! And through reading and learning the script of Jacqueline Wade I learned a lot about myself too. “Tell fear to go away” “Look it up” and “Follow Your Dream” just to name a few things. I’m also so grateful for such wonderful and gracious cast that I learned from as well. And lastly for a theatre who’s mission is to amplify and give space to tell important stories such as these. Thank you @blackspectrumofficial for the work that you do and the lives that you touch! Happy Black History Month folks!

This one was for you Renee 💕 So last summer when my friend Aaron told me about the auditions for a production at Black Spectrum Theatre I was thrilled to find out that the show would focus on Mae Jemison and how she was impacted by watching Lieutenant Uhura on Star Trek. My mom loved Star Trek! She definitely took pride in calling herself a Treky 🖖🏾! And she had all of the original seasons on dvd. So the minute I heard Star Trek, I knew this was no coincidence. She would have been too geeked to come and see the show wearing her Star Trek jean shirt. I miss you more than words can express. But I find joy in knowing you’d be proud that I took a chance on myself. That I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone and met amazingly beautiful people and made wonderously magnificent memories…. All because I followed my dream. Love you Mom and you were right every little thing is gonna be alright 😌 💫 taken in Black Spectrum Theatre Company by @jadeellecreates

I remember one year in elementary school we were tasked with doing a black history month project on an influential person in history and the person I was assigned was Mae Jemison. It’s so funny how life goes like that right. Little reminders that you are going in the right direction 💫 And It has been a true honor to help depict her life story with some amazingly talented actors and crew members. Please join us in celebrating the amazing accomplishments of one phenomenal woman! If you’d like to support local performers in a Black Owned theatre for Black History Month here’s your opportunity! Visit BlackSpectrum.net and get your ticket today! The show is running until this Saturday 😊
