’n Jaar gelede het ek myself verbind tot ’n bergfiets-uitdaging wat ongelooflik mooi en avontuurlik gelyk het — die Trans Baviaans.
Wat ek op daardie stadium nie heeltemal besef het nie, was hoe groot die verskil tussen padfietsry en bergfietsry werklik is. Omdat ek reeds vir die Two Oceans Ultra Marathon ingeskryf was, het ek net vier maande gehad om myself voor te berei… met bitter min tegniese of off-road ervaring.
Die pad tot by die wegspringlyn was nie altyd maklik nie. Daar was onsekerheid, ’n paar valle, Trailseeker wat my behoorlik getoets het, tegniese uitdagings en baie oomblikke waar ek gewonder het of ek regtig hiervoor gereed is.
Maar daar was ook soveel mense wat gehelp, raad gegee, saam geoefen en in my geglo het. Vriende en familie wat nooit getwyfel het dat ek dit sou klaarmaak nie — selfs wanneer ek soms self getwyfel het.
En toe kom 8 Augustus 2026.
Die nuwe Trans Baviaans-roete was hard. Baie hard. Lang klimme, los klippe, diep dongas, ure se stoot en stap waar fietsry amper onmoontlik was. Maar ons het aangehou.
Ek en Elbert het saam gery, saam deur die moeilike dele gewerk en ná 17 uur en 48 minute die eindstreep bereik.
Ek was dalk nie die vinnigste ryer nie, maar ek was sterk, konstant en het aan die einde nog iets oor gehad.
Ek het onseker by hierdie avontuur ingestap.
Ek het aan die ander kant uitgekom met ’n baie groter geloof in wat ek kan doen.
Trans Baviaans 2026 — voltooi.
En ja… ek is ongelooflik trots daarop. 🚵‍♂️

It's funny how India seems to find us wherever we go. Visiting Grand Bassin gets me thinking about faith, culture, and the many different ways people seek meaning in life.

From the peaceful surroundings of Grand Bassin, to the breathtaking views at Alexandra Falls.

It was simple plan: visit the famous Seven Coloured Earths in Mauritius. 😄

Somewhere along the way through Black River Gorges National Park, we got completely sidetracked by an upside-down house... and what started as a quick stop turned into a full adventure at Curious. Secret doors, hidden passageways, mind-bending illusions, and plenty of laughter!

Without a doubt, one of the best illusion experiences we've had so far. A big thank you to the incredibly friendly and helpful staff who made it even more enjoyable.

Sometimes the unexpected detours become the highlight of the day!

Ford Trailseeker #2 Cradle Marathon 🚵‍♂️

Sometimes it’s better NOT to know what you’re getting yourself into… 😅
The plan was 4 hours… next thing you know, 6 hours + have passed!

Mud ✔️
Falls ✔️
Walking with the bike ✔️
Questioning life choices ✔️😂

A little bit of a carry-and-ride race today, but there’s a first time for everything. Lessons learned, legs destroyed, and memories made.

What an incredible outdoor adventure surrounded by beautiful nature and game. 🌿🦒
Definitely one for the books!
