China post part 2!

It took a lot of people to make this show happen and here are some of them. The creative team, Daniel Flannery, Mark Chait, Alain Gauthier, Jarret Parker, Cedwan Hooks, David Finn. I was directing 33 completely untrained puppeteers who through the help of our amazing interpreters, Yang, Nana, and Zoe learned as much puppetry as there was time for. The cast who spent their days performing other shows and still showed up ready to perform our show. And there were countless other builders, boat operators, programmers and many more needed to make this show happen.

It’s hard when you can’t speak the same language but the relationships you form through hope and hand signals can be just as sweet.

Ps….this song played on repeat in the park while we worked. I’m leaving it here to hopefully purge it from my memory. by @jahbiggins

China post part 1!

I can finally reveal that I spent the whole month of April living on a closed resort in China directing the puppets for a wildly ambitious show on the river directed by Daniel Flannery. We had 8 boats each with a large puppet element designed by Nicholas Mahon and built in China under the supervision of @cedwanhooks. The show is now running every night at the Yootown resort to 30,000 audience members!

It was quite the month….come find me and I can tell you all the stories cause there are many to tell!

What an amazing nine days location scouting and filming on the big island for our new short @pauline.retrograde

Written/produced by @anastasiaolowin who is co-directing with me! @alisonweek is our producer extraordinaire who showed us the best time in Hawaii with film screenings, birthday parties, jazz nights, and hikes. @molscotti killed it on the cinematography and we’re about to dump a whole bunch of footage on @birouke’s lap to edit. What an amazing beginning to this film. I can’t wait to film the rest!

Thanks to all the incredible Hawaiians who were so kind and generous to us. It truly is a special place. taken in Big Island, Hawaii by @jahbiggins

Happy day after World Puppetry Day!

This year I’m choosing to be grateful for the show that helped me have a career in the art form. Travelling with @warhorseonstage I saw the world, worked with some of the most brilliantly designed puppets by @handspringpuppetco123, made amazing friends and fell deeply into my personal reasons as to why puppets were a form I would continue to practice. I’ll be forever grateful and forever changed by the sweetest of horses, our Joey boy.

But seriously, on behalf of the puppetry team on Dying for Sex it was an absolute honor to be a part of this project. Watching Michelle Williams work was a gift and giggling with @jennyslate was a joy! What a gorgeously told true and human story… If you haven’t seen the show you should watch asap. Michelle deserves every bit of this award!

Big thanks to Nicholas Mahon for bringing us in and to our fellow puppeteers, @instadeej, @jonhoche, and @bendurocher

The news has finally broken! I have a solo show coming up and you should absolutely be there! LINK IN BIO!

Turning Tigers into Pancakes… a story, a sermon, a comedy special written and performed by Joseph Lymous. As a child, Joseph’s favorite bedtime story was “Little BRAVE Sambo.” Joseph’s aunt, an author, delightfully reappropriated the story from the historically racist children’s book “Little Black Sambo,” a very colorful tale that follows a courageous and clever boy through the jungle where he faces dangerous tigers head-on and comes out better for it.

Through the sharing of his own courageous and hilarious stories, Joseph invites audiences to laugh out loud while they conspire to never let anyone rob them of their own story!
