On Monday night, my mom took her final breaths and went home to be with her Lord and Savior after fighting a long and courageous battle 😭🙌🏾

I haven’t even begun to process this tremendous loss and am currently struggling to find the words to do so 😩💔

While my heart is extremely heavy and I will miss her earthly presence more than anything, I find comfort in knowing she is at peace 🥹🙏🏾💝

Thank you to everyone who has called, texted, and prayed for us. Funeral arrangements are being made and will likely take place sometime next week. I will share details soon. Please continue to lift our family in prayer and cover us in comfort as we are all still reeling from the very recent lost of our grandmother/matriarch as well ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹 by @jahzuri

Thank you for always holding us down and being the head of our family 😭🙌🏾

We’ll cherish every memory we have of you, Grandma.

Get your rest, kiss Tory Goodwin for me 🥹💔 by @jahzuri

Fall is my favorite season for so many reasons 😍 it’s the perfect time to fall in love with reading, writing, learning and loving yourself 🥰 whether you stop in for the open mic, a sweet story time, to make some Black artist (Kerry James Marshall & Kara Walker) inspired art, discuss a great book or to watch a documentary or classic movie 🤩 I’ll be looking forward to seeing your face in the place 💕

I’m especially looking forward to partnering with @shiptoshorelorain for our monthly book discussion 🙌🏾 as well as a special screening of “The Piano Lesson” (2024 version) following our November discussion 📚☕️🎬 #fallinlovewithreading by @jahzuri

August is a tough month for me but if I’ve learned anything through dealing with lifelong grief it’s this:

The work doesn’t stop just because I want to 🥲

My darkest times is when my light is most needed 🥹🙏🏾❤️‍🩹

As always, hope to see your face in the place 🤗

All are welcome and I look forward to illuminating our community together ✨💛 by @jahzuri

There are certain things in life that we can never make sense of and Holly & Natalie not being here is definitely one of those things. While I didn’t get the opportunity to know either of them well, I did get to witness how well loved they both were and still are. I’m deeply grateful to have met them both and for the opportunity to make memories together while celebrating someone we all love very much 🥹 Today made two years since the tragic and unexpected loss of their lives at the hands of a drunk driver 💔Their lives were destined for so much more than what they were trying and able to achieve in their short time on this earth: scholars, dancers, sisters, fierce friends and future dental assistants 👏🏾 While today is a day that I know brings pain into the hearts of the many people who cherished their lives and the futures they did not get to create it is also an opportunity to uplift their valued existence and support the legacies their families are building around their memory: @the_hollymarieproject is a nonprofit started by her mother @cwagnergo and sister @leahlikes2sing to assist dental students with funding towards their studies and The Natalie Lauren White Memorial Scholarship Fund helps to support Fisk students, particularly those from the Chicago area and majoring in dance/psychology. Please consider following and sharing the instagram/facebook page for Holly’s nonprofit and visit the link in my bio to make a donation to Natalie’s scholarship fund in her honor 💝 Holly and Nat, I will always keep your pictures on the ofrenda 🤞🏾say your names while pouring a libation in your honor 🥃 and show as much love and support as I can to those who love you and miss you dearly 🙏🏾 my heart goes out to your families always (especially your siblings and parents 🫂). I pray the two of you always watch over us, that the fullness of your spirits wrap your loved ones in the warmest embrace and that your rest is both as powerful and eternal as your beauty 💖💖 To the prettiest girls in heaven 💜💞💚 #longlivehollyandnatalie #hollymarieproject by @jahzuri

Taking a step back for a bit to process all of life’s changes ❣️ by @jahzuri

June just might be my favorite 😌 Pride + Juneteenth + Black Music Month = plenty of reasons to CELEBRATE all the things I love about being exactly who I am and becoming who I’ve been called to be 🥳🙌🏾🏳️‍🌈 We started the month off strong with Black Artists for Kids honoring Ms. Alma Thomas through patterned painting 🎨 Next up is a film screening centered around the icon that was Richard Wayne Penniman 😮‍💨 then journey back in time with me as we explore the history of Juneteenth 🤓 try to keep up with the tiny humans as they trample through the toddler obstacle course 🥵 followed by a discussion of Columbus native Hanif Abdurraqib’s essay collection “Little Devil in America” 😈 spin the block on me and Carter G. 🤝🏾 as we dive into the evolution of Black History Month from Negro History Week ✊🏾 start Juneteenth weekend off right with a community centered celebration 🙂‍↕️💃🏾 and close this thang out with a kid-led cooking program 😋🍽️ No matter ya vibe trust I’ve something great in store for the whole tribe 🫡🤞🏾🤎 by @jahzuri

Hello, April 🤗 Today officially makes two years since I started working at the Lorain Public Library System 🥳 Im looking forward to continuing to build relationships in my community by providing engaging educational and creatively uplifting programs 🫡 I’ll be bouncing around a bit as I facilitate my program on the evolution of Negro History Week at 3 of our 6 branches over the course of the next few months 🙌🏾 I’m especially excited to be collaborating with our friends over at @shiptoshorelorain for a monthly book discussion that starts on the 15th and to be hosting an open mic at the Main branch to close out National Poetry Month 🤩 As always, I hope to see your faces in some (or all) of these places 😁🤞🏾🤎 by @jahzuri

Second half of the year definitely took it to a level I’ve never been on before 🥲 I’m adjusting, adapting and looking forward to applying all the lessons I learned 🙂‍↕️ until next year 😘 by @jahzuri

2025 was a wild wild ride 🥹 so many memories with so many people, so much loved shared/lost, cried so many tears I damn near drowned in em 😭 mind you, this was only the first half 😅 by @jahzuri

Twas the night before Kwanzaa…🥲❤️‍🔥

They say “how you finish is how you start” so let’s close the year out reaffirming our principles, honoring and pouring into ourselves through tradition and ritual (as always) 🙏🏾❤️🖤💚 by @jahzuri
