This piece took some time - both in thought and execution. It marks the start of a new body of work. Taking some the physical and 3D elements of recent work and translating to drawing via simplified media.

Conceptually the fusion of many things rivers encompass via the activity of fly fishing, expressing something more felt.

Autumn is fleeting. Every living things knows this, feels this.

While I obsess about chasing big browns with streamers, I am equally obsessed with exploring small cold creeks, fishing hoppers for grabby trout. The seek and destroy reactions when a hopper slaps down, ringing the dinner bell, can’t be beat; a v-wake from up stream, a dart from beneath a grassy cut bank, a toilet bowl flush from a big fish. These memories fuel inspiration and anticipation through the long dark days of Winter.

I don’t care for AI “art”. I’m not the biggest fan of digital drawing either, as I see it on the same digital spectrum (albeit on the other end).

I’m not personally worried about AI’s role in art because I’ve trained my entire life to link mind, body and soul to create physical work through physical means and media. That matters to me, and it matters to other folks. I know that practice has a value as old as time. Nothing can take away the human connection between the inspiration from the natural world and physical human expression.

I’ll never stop making art this way. I mean it’s rad….why the f*ck would I!?

Unfinished business.

This piece and at least a dozen more have been waiting in the wings to be tackled, developed and nurtured.

This Summer into Autumn has been full of great change and opportunity which has commanded my attention and time. I’m stoked on what is being accomplished and eager to share some of that soon.

But as those projects reach a certain stage of development and completion, I’m eager to return to the large body of work started, paused, tweaked and now ready for my attention and focus.

In addition, I plan on getting prints, stickers and originals posted on my website for sale soon - long overdue!

Monster Browns and heavy riffs. The original is now in a private collection, but it’s lives on as a sticker!
