It’s been a whirlwind time premiering @damnedifyoudomovie last week @screamfestla and prepping for @filmquest next week in Utah. But having a second to breath, I want to take a moment to acknowledge to my partner in crime on this devilish journey, @evanmetzold

I can say from experience that the term “co-director” gives a lot of people pause. Most people are skeptical of the ability of two individuals to operate as a single unit. But out of the many times I doubted myself over the course of this process, the one thing I’ve never questioned is working with this guy.

Directing can be a lonely process, and despite having never co-directed before, this was immediately a seamless experience. One of the greatest comforts, after even the hardest days of shooting, was having a friend there to share it all with.

To hell and back. Thank you for putting up with all my shenanigans. I love you, brother! To many more movies together. by @jakerrubin

I couldn’t have asked for a better experience co-directing my first feature with @evanmetzold , a fantastic partner to create some glorious chaos with.

From the astounding script we had to work with from @ellenadairg and @ericgilde , to the immensely talented cast and crew we were able to put together with our producers @mattcooploop , @baaadboylili and @kokieimasogie , we are endlessly grateful to everyone involved.

To the undeniable cast we were able to put together with the help of @bighenryr . @katesiegelofficial , @harveyguillen , @gingerthejester , @paulo_costanzo , @officialbethdover, and our incredible supporting ensemble, thank you for bringing your creativity and playfulness to set. You brought these characters to life with unrivaled boldness and bountiful charisma.

To our genius department heads @dannythedp , @marenhjensen , and @desirapesta , I am in constant awe of you and all of your team’s ingenuity. This was a complicated film with a lot of moving parts and everyone was able to tackle every challenge with confidence and endless creativity. I am floored by what you all were able to achieve.

To the superheroes in HMU who swept in and saved the day, @yellowmothmakeup , @katbardot , @felicianelsonhair . We threw you all in the deep end on day one and you were able to conquer every strange aspect of this movie with style and skill, while creating some truly iconic looks.

To our spectacular AD with boundless energy, @moviemaniacgirl , you are a legend. You kept us moving efficiently through 15 page days and thunderstorms alike. Also the wonderful, wonderful Mayes siblings @megancmayes and @therewillbejosh who kept the whole operation afloat.

There are too many people to tag and thank in one post but I’m grateful to everyone who played even a small part in making this come together.

We’re coming out of production with something I’m really proud of and gracious to have had the opportunity to help create. I can’t wait to dive into post and eventually share the magic we captured with everyone else.

Until the next circus. by @jakerrubin

It was difficult to be creative over the past year. With productions shut down I spent a lot of time trying to write. Some of the stuff I wrote was really weird. One of the strangest was a fan film set in the universe of What We Do in the Shadows. Through a combination of practicality and unemployment this script ended up being the one to make it to the other side. Shot entirely with donated time and effort this was created for nothing but the fun of it. It’s coming in one week and I can’t wait to share it.

Being alive and playing dead. Had a fun time haunting @jeanlucmcmurtry in this short for @galenhande . Within the same week I played a vampire and a ghost and I’m totally okay with this typecasting by @jakerrubin

Some days I like to pretend I know how to golf. But today, after a terrible eleven holes, I skulled a ball on a par three that miraculously rolled straight to the pin to become a hole-in-one. Time to buy a lottery ticket. by @jakerrubin

Halloween may be a little different this year, but I had the wonderful chance to reminisce about some old costumes with my sister @notcoolco and @gigidoescostumes on a new podcast segment, The Rubin Sandwich. Head over to @mof1podcast to hear what happens when you put someone between two Rubins. This gem is from ‘03 and was probably my first experience with eyeliner. Happy Halloween! by @jakerrubin
