Parabolic Curves

Inspired by my childhood drawings of straight lines on graph paper making curves, I decided to make a city sized drawing using the city blocks of San Francisco as my graph paper. Using the “Connect the Dots” GPS Art Technique I drew 58 lines pausing my Wahoo ELEMNT BOLT bike computer at every intersection on the north/south axis, and every half block on the west/east axis, and unpausing roughly 1.8 miles away on the adjacent axis. At the end of my ride I did a full 7 mile long outline around the entire square making the ride 114 miles long and 6,608 feet of ascend. Due to the high temperature of 80 degrees (felt like 90) I had to take a mid day break. At the end I was rocked and needed a full night’s rest before I could make this post. #FixieGPSArtByKuba #ParabolicCurves

This past summer Maja and I took a ceramics class with our friends, Kuba (yes, this is a very common Polish name), and Urs, after Kuba’s wife Ania Troszkiewicz ( @troszkiewicz ) had encouraged us to take Alex Beck’s class ( @alexbeckceramics ) at Brick and Mortar ( @brickandmortarstudio_sf ). After a very busy work week, I decided to revisit one of my favorite GPS designs: the giant SF Spiral. Unfortunately I ran out of time to do the full 100 miles on my 3rd Spiral ride, I’m still happy with the result. Route started on top of the North Twin Peak and ended at Sea Cliff. Last night I finally tried to recreate one of the Nazca Line drawings of a bird, here in San Francisco with my Fixie. The Nazca Lines, found in southern Peru, are collections of large scale art created by digging in the ground exposing a different colored dirt, created by the indigenous people over a one thousand year period starting about 2500 years ago. The Nazca Lines are usually drawn with one continuous line and were one of the inspirations for my GPS Art back when I started doing this in July 2020. #FixieGPSArtByKuba #NazcaLines taken in San Francisco, California by @jakubmosur

In memory of the deaths of Joan Sebastian Guerrero in Biddeford, Maine and Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston, Texas by ICE agents, and 50+ others killed in ICE custody since January 20, 2025, I led a group of 14 cyclists to draw the message “ABOLISH ICE” across San Francisco.

NOTE: I made mistake on the Time of the ride, the actual Time was 2 Hours and 49 Minutes.
