Today would be my father’s 94th year and I feel many emotions. I remember when my father first left this existence and asking God why. Why me? What God could be so cruel to take a 12 year old’s father? And now… Oh my God, the clarity that listening to your ancestors and elders can get you! You were supposed to be my father! How appreciative I am for the man that gave me pride in self. How blessed I am to have my rebellious spirit. To feel deeply connected to community and family. We are living in times that closely resemble the times he grew up in. That’s not a coincidence to me, that is divine intervention. Thank you for being a part of creating the blueprint and sharing it with others. Thank you for being my father. I will always use your work to fuel my art and my work for the community. One of the most meaningful parts of this season has been deepening our residency with Cleveland School of the Arts.Here.. Mojuba! is marking a selection with Cleveland School of the Arts students.Many of the artists teaching, mentoring, and performing with Mojuba! today are CSA alumni themselves.What began as students discovering their artistic voice has evolved into a full-circle pipeline of leadership, mentorship, cultural practice, and professional artistry.That matters deeply to us.Because we believe young people deserve to see futures that feel possible.They deserve to learn from artists who understand their journeys firsthand.And they deserve spaces where culture, discipline, artistry, and community exist together.This is the kind of ecosystem Mojuba! is committed to building.And this summer, we are continuing that work through our intensives, youth programming, and cultural leadership opportunities. An extremely jammed packed year!A year full of excitement, anticipation, love, art, tears, exhaustion, challenges and a whole lot of learning. Not gonna lie… this year went by quickly and slowly at the same damn time. •I traveled out the country for the first time •I met my handsome nephew •My sister was snatching awards left and right•Some folks I love got married •We successfully made it through our TAF journey •Lil bro graduated from high school •I traveled often and ate great food I just have to thank God for these many blessings. Many things that I prayed for 5 years ago are happening RIGHT NOW. Although the world and our economy are in turmoil, somehow I found light in my community and in my family. by @jam.the.dancer
