ow y’all enjoying the video for “Redneck Rich?” This one’s pretty special to me not just because the lyrics hit so close to home, but because of the journey that led to writing it.

Some of y’all know this, but my family has been in construction my entire life. Before music was ever anything more than singing my favorite songs at a bonfire or on a jobsite, I built houses with my dad. Whenever people asked what I did, I’d tell them, “Yeah, I do this… but I’m a songwriter trying to make it as an artist.”

One day on a jobsite, I just had a feeling the neighbor was a songwriter. I introduced myself, left him a QR code thing with my music and socials, and honestly never expected to hear back. A week or so later, he emailed me. That neighbor was Mark Nesler. The man played a part in many of my favorite songs growing up on country music.

We set up a write with Beau Barkley another great writer and good buddy of mine, and on the way there, a few lines popped into my head. I sang them to Mark, Beau jumped in when he got there, and we all agreed to write it. That’s how “Redneck Rich” was born.

This song is special because it reminds me of the moment I started taking chances on myself. I had no business introducing myself to Mark, but I did and it changed my life. I’m forever grateful for his friendship, his advice, and that writing session.

Yall got to check out the new video for “Horses” yet? Figured I’d give yall a little just media dump from the making of the video. The full clip of my guy @josuepraymond dipping out when the first round of fire works went off. Thought the truck done got eeem lol. He also tells a cool little story about how me met shoutout @thereddoorsaloon . Again I couldn’t be more thankful and blessed to be where I am right now doing what I’m doing. God has been doing big things in my life and that mustard seed faith is payin off. He’s put the best group of people around me and my team. He’s gotten rid of people who didn’t deserve to be a part of what we’re trying to do and build. And all around he’s just been really moving mountains in my life lately and I just almost can’t believe we’re doing what we’re doing right now. Big shoutout to everyone that played a part in the making of the song and video and just getting this thing to where we are right now! Drum 🥁 - @gradysaxman

Almost didn’t post this because I’m embarrassed hearing 20 year old James try to sing lol but yesterday marked Katie and I’s 10 year anniversary. @thekttalbot you are my world and my heartbeat. The day I married you, was the day everything changed for the better for me. I adore you and love you til the end of time. Thank you for choosing to be my wife and saying yes to a kid who loved you with all his heart but didn’t quite know how to do it, or show you yet. I’m learning every day to be a better husband, To be the husband I know you deserve. Which is way better than I given you over these past ten years. I love you so much! Authenticity unlocks greatness:

Are you doing it for the industry?

Or are you doing it for you, and your audience.

Not only have I been obsessed with @indiaarie since I was 17. But, this song was the deciding factor on getting signed in 2008. This song will always hold one of the closest places in my heart.

Stoked to have produced and written 2 songs on the new @awu_ofc record with the team. (Formally known as @pixy_official_)

Track 4 - Lalala
Track 5 - Supermoon

I remember watching a @tydollasign interview back in 2017/2018 and he was talking about how k pop was the only genre he hadn’t worked in yet, and I remember thinking to myself, I feel like that’s the one genre idk if I’ll ever find an avenue into, and here we are almost 10 years later and I’ve got 4 Kpop and Krock cuts, and a lot more coming out later this year. Thank you Lord for your grace.
