A Sydney man and an Englishman have today confirmed their weekly sporting conversations can officially be classified as a “global media platform” after putting on some nice Motorino gear and standing in front of a camera.

Jimmy Smith and Conor Dolan are the two highly qualified voices behind Sidebar Sports a podcast covering sport from across the globe, despite neither man being consulted by a professional sporting organisation at any stage.

The show combines Australia and the UK’s timeless love-hate relationship with a nauseating amount of American sports chat, alongside film, television, music, internet debates and whatever off-field scandal has ruined the group chat that week.

“We wanted to create something for people who love sport but don’t necessarily want to hear a retired player explain defensive structures for 50 minutes,” said Smith, before Dolan interrupted to explain why England’s latest defeat was actually a moral victory.

Listeners are invited to come for the sport, stay for the nonsense and, through an unfortunate administrative oversight, occasionally learn something.

The pair are now welcoming partnerships and collaborations, having completed the traditional final step required of any serious media organisation: getting professional photos taken.
