James Kaguima is a multi-award-winning entrepreneur, cultural producer and community builder who designs experiences that bring people together and create meaningful social impact.

As the founder of @skate.cabal, he has built one of the UK’s leading community roller-skating organisations, using culture, wellbeing and shared experiences to connect thousands of people across generations. Through programmes, events and partnerships, his work has promoted healthier lifestyles, strengthened communities and created opportunities for young people and adults alike.

Alongside Skate Cabal, James works at the intersection of creativity, technology, entrepreneurship and community. His experience spans venture-backed startups, local government, creative technology and experimental projects, including motion capture and immersive experiences. He has also served as Chair of Elevate and later Project Lead for Elevate’s Invest Programme and Elevate Fund at the London Legacy Development Corporation, helping unlock opportunities for communities across East London.

James’ work has been recognised with the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, East London Young Community Hero Award, YIC Excellence Award, a Special Recognition Award from the High Sheriff of Greater London, and inclusion in the Top 25 Wray Forward PowerBook of Entrepreneurs and Black Businesses.

Today, through Skate Cabal, Digital Doodlerz and a growing portfolio of creative ventures, James partners with brands, organisations and institutions to build communities, produce experiences and develop projects that create both social and commercial value. by @jameskaguima

You don’t need a title, position, or permission to make a difference in your community. Real change begins with people who care, those who choose to show up, speak up, and take action together

It’s not about waiting for someone else to lead. It’s about realising the power has always been within you, to shape the spaces you’re part of and spark something bigger than yourself

Change doesn’t always start in boardrooms or big stages. Sometimes, it starts in your local community, your group chat, or at the places you gather with friends, sharing ideas, laughter, and hope

Because every movement begins the moment someone decides to do something, right where they are 🌍💫

We’re proud to share that @skate.cabal has been included in the newest edition of the Wray Forward Powerbook, spotlighting Top 25 exceptional Black and Mixed-Black heritage entrepreneurs in the UK making real strides in their sectors

What started as an idea to tackle the lack of dedicated spaces for roller skating has grown into something much bigger, a community, a movement, and a tribe

Through our multi-award-winning programmes, events, workshops, and campaigns, we’ve seen first-hand the power of skating to bring people together, spark creativity, and empower communities

This recognition is more than a milestone, it’s a reminder of what’s possible when passion, people, and purpose come together.

First day working at City Hall in the Royal Docks 🙌🏾

An exciting start as a Cultural Producer, connecting with artists, creative practitioners, cultural organisations and local communities

I’ll be supporting artist commissions, creative partnerships and community engagement for Royal Docks Originals 2027, helping create opportunities for local talent and for communities to shape the festival

It’s the part of cultural production I enjoy: bringing people, ideas and resources together to make creative projects happen

🎨 Are you an artist or creative based in Newham or connected to the Royal Docks? Take a look at the commission opportunities through the link in my bio, check each strand’s eligibility to see which fits

A day of conversations across tech, sport, media and creativity left me with one clear reminder: whatever you’re building, it all comes back to people

Behind every strategy, product or project is a human need, and often a gap between what we assume people want and what they actually need

The people you serve aren’t simply an audience. Their experiences should help shape what you build. Your team isn’t simply there to deliver it either; they bring perspectives that can strengthen the idea or expose what you’ve overlooked

As a founder, community builder and cultural producer, it reminded me that listening isn’t the soft part of the work, it influences the decisions you make

Who is this really for? What am I assuming? And whose voice might be missing from the room?

Because ideas don’t grow through ambition alone. They grow through trust, feedback and people who believe in them enough to help carry them forward

A big thank you to @dippedincreativeengagement for having me represent them as one of the media partners at @ukbbshow 🙌🏾📸

What are you building, and whose voice is helping to shape it? by @jameskaguima

Looking back at East Summer School showcase @queenelizabetholympicpark, it was great to see the variety of opportunities young people had explored, from roller skating and dance to music, performance, creativity and career development

The performances, presentations and talks gave young people a platform to share what they had learned, demonstrate new skills and celebrate their progress

It was a proud moment to showcase @skate.cabal and recognise what our young people had achieved throughout the programme
