Largely due to ill health. I haven’t posted in over a year - as some old dead guy once said : It was the best of times, It was the worst of times’
Here are some pictures that mean something to me, life’s a journey - I’ve lost people on the way and made connections with amazing friends.
I’m really looking forward to being back in London this week and vetting @decorativefair which runs from Tuesday 29 Sept through to Sunday 4 Oct. Battersea Park, London.

‘…a Miss Somebody, who is really a Mrs Somebody else. She has started a large restaurant, all very elaborately simple on very new school High Art lines. The result is gorgeous and a wee bit vulgar! She has nothing but green handled knives and all is curiously painted and coloured. Some of the knives are purple and are put as spots of colour! It is all quite good, all just a little outrè, a thing we must avoid and shall too.’

Architect, Edwin Lutyens writing to his wife, describing a visit to Miss Cranston’s Tea Rooms, Glasgow c1900

Watercolour portrait of Alexander Ritchie, Iona by Scottish Colourist F. C. B. Cadell c.1914.
Ritchie trained at Glasgow School of Art and his designs for metalwork and silver were based on the ancient monuments found on the Isle of Iona (fig 2). These items were aimed at the flourishing tourist market and to augment his income in the summer months he would skipper boat trips to Fingal’s Cave on the Isle of Staffa, immortalised by Felix Mendelssohn’s overture ‘Die Hebriden’ 1830.
Cadell spent most summers painting on Iona and would have known Ritchie and his wife Euphemia well.

Eduardo Paolozzi R.A. (1924 - 2005)
Cubist Elephant Sculpture 33cm x 30cm
In 1972 Scottish artist Paolozzi, who was a pioneer of the Pop Art movement, was commissioned by Nairn Floors of Kirkcaldy, Fife to design a box to contain promotional material of the firm’s flooring range.
The box took the form of a cubist elephant which was made of injection moulded plastic.
Officially the edition was limited to 3000 units but considerably less were issued due to manufacturing shrinkage problems and matching bases to lids was a major issue.
There are examples in The Met and V&A museums.
Now sold 📍
