It’s official…

I have been coaching for over 18 months now, taking on multiple different clients and gaining valuable experience. With this my confidence in my programming has significantly increased, and results have shown through taking all 6 clients to national level comps this year. With this experience and confidence I am opening up more spaces to my coaching team. If you’re interested drop me a dm or fill out the form in my bio 🙏🏻

Team West Jan–May Recap (Chronological Order)

First up, Max and Fin kicked things off at the Super Training qualifier in February. Fin added 87.5kg and Max 50kg to their totals, where both are closing in on that 600kg milestone due to their consistent dedication.

Charlie followed with a silver at British Bench Champs, then added 27.5kg to his total at full power Nats. He’s building strong momentum heading into the end of the year.

Melissa lifted at the Lincoln qualifier, going 9/9 and adding 7.5kg to her total, whilst going down a weight class, where BUCs and Nats qts were secured. A change to the squat micro led to a 12.5kg jump in just 8 weeks. Lots learnt this season and 400+ will be no issue the next time she’s on the platform.

Adam competed at a South East qualifier, adding 27.5kg in just 8 weeks of working together, earning his Nats qual, gaining valuable experience in Woltherhampton . Big plans for him next year as a final year sub-junior.

Jodie and Daro competed next at the Ramadan Rumble. In just 6 weeks, Jodie secured a comfy BUCs qt and her first 140kg deadlift. She followed it up with a 9/9 day at BUCs. Daro, with only 3 weeks of prep, added 12.5kg from his debut at Lincoln.

Ellie Snape added 12.5kg at Junior Nats, hitting the 400kg mark despite a tough prep balancing training and a new job. With training partner Ellie Stevenson earning her first national medal at BUCs, adding 30kg to her total and going 9/9, whilst adding over 150kg to her total in 18 months.

The Reading Uni team competed at Elite Bodyworks. For both Mia and Adam, this was their first comp, where Mia added 40kg to squat and deadlift in 12 weeks. Whilst Adam got a 12.5kg deadlift PR with solid technical improvements to all lifts.

James rounded things off at the PWRTHR Spring Classic. Despite a hospital visit and weight drop the week before, he still matched his bench PB and gained valuable experience.

A huge start to the year with 2 national medals and 8 national appearances. I’m incredibly proud of this team and I can’t wait for what the second half of the year brings.

Yeh this one meant a lot.

Back in July I lost a lot of confidence following the FISU championships where I regressed my total from BUCs. Following this training began to pick up again, however another rough day out in Luxembourg and a lot of personal issues left me in a pretty low state. Coming into this competition I had no expectations, I just wanted to prove to myself what I am capable of and put up a performance I would be proud of, which was exactly what I did.

I’d like to say a huge thank you to my friends, family, the @uonpl team, my girlfriend @lauraholland.pl and coach @tomknapp__ for all the support, encouragement and belief in me in the build up to this comp, none of this would’ve been possible without you all.

Bit of time off specific powerlifting training and some rehab for my bicep and pec, then we will be back ❤️

280x3 @84.4

It’s taken a while to get back to this position with A LOT of rehab following two herniated discs and a stress fracture in my lower back, but finally touching weights which I haven’t done in over 10 months.

This year has taught me a lot and helped me appreciate the little wins. Yes the last rep was scrappy but I am so proud of how far we have come @thepowerliftingprofessor ❤️❤️ by @jameswestpl

End of block 5 recap!

It is very easy to fall into a trap of just posting the wins on here, but I want to keep this return back to powerlifting as real as I can.

Bench and deadlift were lovely this block, pressing 3 reds and repping 5 reds for the first time in a long time. But squats still causing more discomfort than I would like, leading to MULTIPLE crash outs (sorry dev). We have decided it is best to take a little step away from them prioritising ssb and more machine based squat patterns whilst pushing the lifts I can enjoy.

The physical and mental challenge continues but we will find a way @thepowerliftingprofessor by @jameswestpl

270x3

Frustrating my baby hands tore on lwu so meant straps were needed for working sets.

But this is the most weight I have repped in 10 months, with significantly less pain then before which is something to be proud of. Starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel for deads 🥺

170 @84.3

It’s been just over 8 months since I pressed 170, but this time over 10kg lighter bodyweight. If you asked me a year ago where I expected to be today, this is far from what I would have said, BUT this is a new and exciting journey that’s only just begun. (Plus saying I can bench 2x bodyweight is pretty cool 🤪)

Highlights of the 4th block back to powerlifting.

205x3 / 165 / 260x3

Continuing to tick all the boxes where possible and stack the small wins. Best block so far after making some adjustments following a flare up in the last block. Load capacity continues creeping up on squat and deadlift whilst bench is arguably the strongest it’s ever been when taking into account bw. Onto the next one…

Ep. 4 Road Back To Powerlifting

Been a while since I posted due to busy comp season and final year exams. Another successful end of block in the books, baseline pain continues to fall and lifting the heaviest weights I’ve touched in 5 months

Some highlights from this past week:
1) 220 comp squat - squat still causing the most grief but with some new additional warm ups this will hopefully clear
2) 157.5 comp bench - better than last block but still needs some waking up to do
3) 272.5 comp deadlift - once a week frequency with a topset and a cluster back off starting to show signs of life
4) 180x5 ssb - majority of intensity coming from secondary squat where in a more neutral position slowly trending back to where it needs to be
5) 145x3 comp bench - only 11kg off of my best triple (ignore how tng they were 💔)
6) Lightest I’ve been since I was 18 👀

Last rep was a little scrappy but this is the strongest my pull has ever been. We load the 6th red when?
