Hello all, Jamie Ruth here. We have quite a few new followers so I thought it would be a good time to introduce myself to those who don't know me. I started tattooing in 1995 as the apprentice of English Craig- RIP❤️- my work is a continuation of the tradition and craft he passed on to me. I spent many years traveling the world as a vagabond tattooer, it was a wild time! I returned to New Orleans in 2013 and opened Treasure Tattoo in 2015. I love working with my clients to create work that will be a valued permanent keepsake. I specialize in classic tattooing in its many forms. I believe that the experience of obtaining a tattoo is as important as the resulting image. I enjoy making both large and small scale tattoos, the most important thing is that the tattoos I do are made with love and bring joy into my clients lives. Thanks so much to everyone who came out last Saturday to celebrate Walt, it was such a beautiful day and I'm sure he could feel the love❤️ I made some cool shirts and I still have some if anyone wants one HOLLER! Feels very poignant to have buried 3 of my mentors, Craig, Walt and Richard, Tattooing is so different now- for good and for bad- really grateful to be a part of the magic of tattooing in the 90's✨and NOW!! Progress on this wild cover up for my dearest darling @brooke_mun_ky 💖 There are still a few of the elements from the old tattoo poking through, doing the tails next so they will be gone pecan when we wrap this up. IT’S LABOR DAY INNIT!!! It’s coming up on the 10 year anniversary of English Craig passing on, I owe this man so much❤️He brought me into tattooing at a time when it was still a secretive world (those days are over!) through that I have been able to travel the world, have an amazing life and now work for myself for the last almost 12 years. These days it seems a lot of younger tattooers don’t want to put the time in to learn this craft, they want the instant gratification of Instagram likes and some vague type of “coolness” that I’m not cool enough to understand! In the beginning of my apprenticeship I worked at the tattoo shop 6 days a week and waitressed 7 days a week, then after I started tattooing (31 years ago!!) 6 days a week for the next 3 years. There were only a few other shops in New Orleans at that time and we were consistently really busy. Walt and I would go out almost every night after work (the shop closed at midnight), but regardless of how late (or early..:) the night went I showed up. I really appreciate having earned my knowledge in this way and I’m still dedicated to tattooing and hope to be able to keep at it as long as possible, its an obsession that grows different arms over time. NEW PAINTING! I really tried to get the lead out with this and keep it fast, fearless and fun (while still honoring the subject..:)) I wanted play with some different layering techniques and just party without getting caught up in PERFECTION (whatever that means). Currently obsessed with birds, I would love to do something like this as a backpiece (to the back of the knees) or leg sleeve. If you don’t ask you don’t get!
