Meet yourself where you are.
Not where you think you “should” be.
Not where others expect you to be.
Right here.
Right now.

Except, if I was a girl in a book…
I’d be Auri, in The Name of the Wind, or the barefoot forest-walking female version of Legolas.
Which means life would definitely not be easy —
but it would be enchanted.

And maybe that’s exactly what I’ve been learning.
That life isn’t supposed to be perfect or smooth.
It’s meant to be lived with wonder.
With awe.
With heartbreak and starlight and chipped tea cups and overgrown paths.

Because the real magic lives in the moments I stopped trying to control everything…
and started listening.

To my body.
To the earth.
To the girl inside me who still believes in stories.

I don’t need a perfect plotline.
I just need presence.
And softness.
And the courage to keep writing the next page.

I no longer live for control.
I live for rhythm.
For touch.
For breath.

Devotion is not a rule I follow.
It is the way I let life move through me.

And devotion still shows up.
She rises in the morning.
She rolls out the mat.
She keeps her promises —
not out of fear,
but out of love.

🤎

I don’t believe healing is about becoming better.

I believe it’s about becoming inhabited.

When the body feels safe, clarity comes naturally.
When the womb is listened to, rhythm returns.

This is the work I’m devoted to.

With love,
Jana

Nobody told me being myself was something my body had to feel safe for.

I kept editing myself into a smaller version of myself and the advice ‘just be yourself’ made me feel like something was wrong with me because it felt impossible.

If this advice doesn’t work for you either, it’s because your body does not feel safe expressing yourself. This is a learnt pattern, a belief: your body literally learnt at a moment in time that it is not safe to be yourself.

So you can’t just wake up one day, snap your fingers and decide to express yourself fully.

It wasn’t until I created safety in the body, uncovered and changed those beliefs I held, that I was able to express my thoughts and opinions without a flood of anxiety.

I wish I would’ve know this when I first started my journey toward authentic expression. It would’ve helped me understand that there’s nothing wrong with me. And that I can change. And I did.

And so can you.

With love,
Jana

Being reachable all the time. Spending most of the day online getting used to the fast speed of others.

A quick email here, a quick message there.

It makes you forget what your natural rhythm is.

Every time I go for a walk in the forest, earth brings me back to listening within. She reminds me to notice the beauty happening around me. She shows me how to live with the seasons.

We are meant to live with the earth,
she runs through our bones.

With love,
Jana

Beautiful words on the video by @nabalo 🍃

We are trying to live like machines, but we are eco-systems.
We are cycles. We are seasons. We are rivers and roots and rising sun.

I want to ask how it can be that it is September already. At the same time, it feels like lifetimes have past since I was beginning the year with a week in silence & digital detox.

Delighting in the late summer sun (but if it were my choice, I’d be deep in autumn weather already).

I went for a walk by the sea and I couldn’t stop turning the pages of The Blue Castle. Few books have left me with such a deep reminder to not let life slip through your fingers. To not wait. To allow yourself to go after your dreams. To not be afraid to say out loud what it is that you want. And especially, to not stay in places where you simply cannot blossom.

It was also such a comforting read, especially the parts about the trees and the seasons, and the moments on the island.

“If you can sit in silence with a person for half an hour and yet be entirely comfortable, you and that person can be friends. If you cannot, friends you’ll never be and you need not waste time in trying.”
- The Blue Castle

I started painting autumn colors. Painting for me I noticed is like food, I fall in love with painting one thing and then I paint it over and over again until I get bored. Then I go searching for the next inspiration.

I‘ve been feeling drawn to old movies lately, it feels like there is less over stimulation. The more I connect with my body, the more I notice the impact things have on me, the more I choose a slower pace and less input.

I had never watched an Al Pacino movie. During summer I watched Scent of a Woman (oh so good. I think we all need a little -Colonel Frank from that scene on the podium- in our lives.).

Maybe you don’t need to find yourself,
maybe you need to stop leaving parts of yourself behind in the small, seemingly insignificant moments of the day.

I have felt this deep in my bones. About the relationships we choose, the things we do, every decision in our life. Sometimes we need to take a step back, and ask ourselves, am I choosing this because it is served on the smorgasbord, and it’s the best option from what is on display? Or am I choosing this deliberately, because it is what my heart, my soul calls for?

Sometimes, when the former is true, we must be patient. And wait. Choose nothing, until our heart guides us to an option that is ours to follow.

It takes courage to look at your life’s choices with open eyes, but if you do, can you sense where and what you chose because it beckoned to you and where it was calling from your soul?

It’s something I’m feeling into again and again, especially when it comes to dreams about the future. More often than not I limit myself to what is beckoning to me from the smörgåsbord.

It feels like the internet is getting more and more full of rights and wrongs, of this or that statements, so here is a reminder that you don’t have to follow a script, or a set of rules, or what the internet deems the right thing today. You can find your very own way, of life, of being.

It doesn’t have to make sense to anybody else, it doesn’t have to fit a mold, it only has to make sense to you.

There’s no one way to be her.
Only your way.
So let it be messy,
let it be yours.

You already have everything you need inside of you 💌

It can be the most difficult to be grateful when you don't feel satisfied with where you are.
But I've noticed it again and again in my own life, happiness is rarely on the other side of getting the thing.
Once I get there, there's always another thing waiting.
Learning to be grateful for where I already was changed how I felt, and paradoxically, that’s exactly when life began flowing and moving toward where I wanted to go.

You already have everything you need inside of you 🤎

‘The world will convince you that you need more. I hope gratitude reminds you that you already have enough.’

My journey these past couple of years has needed a lot of forgiveness. Forgiveness towards myself.

I sat with tears running down my face, holding myself, asking forgiveness to my body for all the times I self abandoned.
Forgiveness to my heart, for all the times I stayed in places that slowly broke me.
Forgiveness to my whole self, for not staying when I needed it most.

And most of all, for allowing others to determine if and when and which parts of me were worthy.

And all those versions of myself that self abandoned to fit in, to be loved, to belong. I forgive them. They did the best they could. And now, I can do better.

———

I always waited for a man to stay long enough for me to finally feel safe enough to be myself again. To stay until I healed.

Until I realized, I myself wasn’t staying.

I wasn’t sitting in patience, allowing myself to come back to life. I wasn’t deciding that I was worthy. I wasn’t choosing myself.

That’s what this year has been. by @janashala_

The healing powers of the quiet of the trees 🍃

Three quarters of a year in this forest. I didn’t tell anyone why I came back, because I myself didn’t fully know yet.

I finally allowed myself the space to be. To not rush somewhere. To not have to arrive somewhere.

And now, I am starting to know.
