Summer read > Food for Thought.

Not (predominantly) about architecture,
but about sun, trees, shades and seeds.
Insightful examples from all over the globe of how to translate inspiration into sustainable cultivation - and how carefully grown crops can travel from fields and garden to plates. Accompanied by a selection of impressive photos.

An evening with
Mikio Mori, Japan’s Ambassador to Denmark and former representative in New York.
@japanemb_denmark

A profound conversation on the role of diplomacy in a rapidly changing world:

The fine art of combining openness with perseverance - opening doors, building trust, interest, mutual understanding, and having the determination to keep these gates open at all times.

Listening carefully and curiously.
Finding common ground — from life sciences to the cultural bridges created through manga, music and creative industries, where soft power connects societies and creates new possibilities.

Shaping solutions together.
Creating momentum, trust and possibilities.

Across politics, business, culture and society - progress begins with dialogue.

Looking forward to continuing this valuable conversation.

Bien sûr, je l’ai lu lorsque j’étais enfant. Souvent :)

-

As a Favoured Parisian Bookseller - close to Jardin du Luxembourg - remarked a few days ago:

"You should read it once every year - at least."

Not without adding: "And in contrary to what most people believe, it isn't a children book"

Of course, i read it when i was a child. Often :)

It's (not) about Matcha -抹茶 !

'Rikyū’s Hundred Verses'

A guide to the essence, etiquette and training of the Japanese Tea Ceremony - Chanoyu - 茶の湯.

The book distills Sen no Rikyū's teachings (1522–1591), the master who defined the art of the 'Way of Tea' - Chadō - 茶道.

Lessons on the importance of:

• Cultural and Social Rituals
• Focus, Depth, Meaning, Mind and Experience
• Curiosity and the courage to ask questions
• Hospitality - The art of hosting and being hosted
• Lifelong Learning
• 間 Ma in the sense of intentional emptiness

Compiled by Iguchi Kaisen, a distinguished tea master of the Urasenke tradition. Kaisen-sensei offers essential commentary accompanying these verses attributed to Sen no Rikyū.

A recommended introduction to the mindset, aesthetics and beauty of Chanoyu and Chadō.

Published by Tankosha (淡交社), a leading publisher of tea and Japanese culture titles.

'A Good City - The Short Story'

An excellent, enjoyable little book for everyone interested in the making of livable cities.

And a very personal entry point into Jan Gehl's thinking and making as architect, and urban planner.

24 short stories, derived from lectures and conversations, condensed down into 84 pages, written together with former office partner Camilla van Deurs.

An inviting appetizer to delve deeper into his enduringly relevant advocacy for creating vibrant, accessible, and inclusive cities - grounded in human scale, public life and the richness and connecting quality of everyday experiences.
