WHEN ART MAKES YOU FEEL SEEN…

Another beautiful evening at Lena Waithe Presents: Around the Table, this time featuring @brooklynn_fields theatrical play, The Committee, directed by @fednajacquet .

Every once in a while, you experience a piece of art that doesn't just entertain you… it reaches into your soul, touches a place you thought only you knew existed, and reminds you that you're not alone in what you've felt.

This was THAT experience for me. ❤️

Brooklyn Fields, I don't know how you did it, but there were moments when I felt as though you had somehow read pages from my own journal. The words, the emotions, the vulnerability, the moments of truth… I felt every bit of it.

I laughed. I cheered. I cried. And somewhere between those moments, I felt seen. I felt heard. 🥹❤️

THAT is the power of extraordinary storytelling.

Beautifully written, thoughtfully directed, and brought to life by a wonderful cast, The Committee was more than a reading for me. It was an experience that stayed with me long after the final words were spoken.

Congratulations to Brooklyn Fields, director Fedna Jaquet, and everyone involved in bringing this incredible work to life. I cannot WAIT to see it fully realized on stage! 👏🏽

And of course, sharing another wonderful evening with my girl Tasia made it even sweeter. I'm always grateful for our time together, supporting the arts, sharing experiences, and making memories. 💕

Sometimes we go to the theater to escape our lives. Other times, we discover a piece of ourselves waiting for us on that stage.

Tonight was the latter.

"I always assumed it's not going to be me, because they need me. No one needs you is the perspective I have now."

Janean Jeffries was doing the work of seven people when the layoffs found her anyway. What she built from it: create things for yourself, and get out there and build a community.

Being on Sista Brunch was on her vision board. She's here now, and so is the full conversation with our drop-in co-host Shawn Pipkin-West — live on YouTube, link in bio.

What a night of storytelling and laughter!

Tonight, @tasiasherel and I had the pleasure of attending Lena Waithe Presents: Around the Table, featuring James Rogers III’s pilot, "And They Were Roommates."

The writing was smart, funny, and SO entertaining, the cast absolutely brought these characters to life! There’s something special about hearing good writing jump off the page right in front of you, and baby… I LAUGHED! 😂😂

Such a wonderful night celebrating talented writers, actors, and the magic that happens when the right words meet the right voices. Grateful to be in the room, supporting creativity and enjoying it all with Tasia. ❤️

My plus one for the weekend… MY MOMMY! And babyyyy, did she look GOOD! 😍

But as beautiful as she looked, nothing compared to seeing that smile on her face when she hit the dance floor. That was EVERYTHING for me. ❤️

Watching her laugh, dance, and simply enjoy herself filled my heart in a way I can’t even explain. These are the moments I treasure, the ones I hold onto a little tighter and thank God for a little louder. 🙏🏽 Caregiving is HARD!!

And let me tell y’all something… Mommy can BOOGY!! 😂💃🏽 She was out there getting it, and I loved every single second!

My beautiful date. My Mommy. My heart. ❤️
More joy. More dancing. More memories like this, please. 💙

"Do the thing that scares you."

Our drop-in co-host Shawn Pipkin-West — director, UPM, and the person who said yes to hosting this podcast when it terrified her — on why fear is the signal, not the warning. That's the universe, that's God, those are your ancestors telling you it's going to be okay.

Meet Shandi.... 🎥 I was called in by @kellysarri to work on a 90s-style commercial concept and babyyyy… the memories came flooding back! 😂💃🏽

Teased hair, Aqua Net, bold colors; took me all the way back! Such a fun day on set, stepping into that era again and just enjoying the creativity.📹
