Mindful that I’m very much not Robinson Crusoe here (🙋@nickcaveofficial @niccysue) but the healing powers of omg-I-can’t-breathe cold water + dawn + good people is totally a thing. Books can’t talk and I’ll never be convinced this is a bad thing. But if this one could it might tell you that it was touch and go over a few years. And that its authors are truly remarkable.

It would also say that they were lifted up by a spectacular team who got it from the get go: Klarissa Pfisterer Freeman, Mark Chew, Kirsten Jenkins, Sarah Porz, Emily Hua, Justin Wolfers, Sarah Odgers, Emily Hart, Katri Hilden, Ariana Klepac, Jessica Best, Natalie Crouch, Cheddar Cheese. Sarah Hatton, Sue Bobbermein, Lorraine Woodcheke. MJ. Megan Pigott. Jane Morrow. 🖤

If (when!) you do pick it up, it will tell you that it’s a cookbook for fans of Anchovy (the Richmond restaurant celebrating a decade this year), fans of Thi Li (the legend/Asian girl who didn’t want to be an accountant), and fans of south Asian food (especially curious ones or viet kieu with a visceral recall of tastes). And that it’s also a story about identity. Belonging. The space in between. A kid in Doonside. Hunger. Hope. Community. Survival. And love! Yes, it’s totally a love story too.

What do you do when you’re @benshewry and you write a memoir with a chapter devoted to Bolognese? You dedicate three days to visit bookshops far and wide to personally deliver *warm* lasagne, of course. Naturally, @sunbookshop, as one of the world’s mightiest indies, is a big supporter. Word in sunny Yarraville this morning was that the incomparable Deb @readeatwalk wants more copies of the orange and purple book. Out in 13 days! Life goals right here. This wonderful (comprehensive!) book team @murdochbooks made with the irrepressible @compostable.kate back in 2023 made its cameo at #bookweek this week. This is Nick the librarian from the author’s kids’ school. He borrowed her cover-star jumper, carried a bucket of compost and even cut a fringe. Legends, both of them. by @janeswillson
